01 February 2014 The wintery weather affected the pre-season friendlies on Saturday 1 February 2014.
Edinburgh University 2 Tayforth 1 Edinburgh University were 2-1 winners in their pre-season friendly match against Tayforth.
Fort William P Kinlochshiel P The 2pm throw up between Fort William and Kinlochshiel at An Aird was postponed as the ‘Shiel camp were in attendance at the funeral of John Farquhar Munro.
Fort William 1 Lochaber 2 The Fort William and Lochaber reserve sides had a morning meeting at An Aird with the visitors running out 2-1 winners. Findlay MacDonald gave Lochaber a first half lead but 16 year old Fort William forward Lewis Morrison levelled on the half hour mark. That’s the way it looked like the game was going to finish until Lochaber’s Pat Toal grabbed what proved to be the winner when he made it 2-1 just 5 minutes from time.
Glasgow Mid Argyll 6 Glasgow University 0 Glasgow Mid Argyll and Glasgow University beat the weather for a useful pre-season outing at Yoker. The National Division side proved too strong for the Students, who included Skye Camanachd’s Iain Grant in their side, and they ran out 6-0 winners. Craig Anderson grabbed a hat-trick, Mark Bain bagged a brace and Euan Forsyth got the other.
Glenorchy: North (of the River Orchy) P South (of the River Orchy) P Glenorchy’s North v South pre-season encounter was postponed as The Mart was waterlogged.
Inverness 3 Oban Celtic 1 Inverness took the lead in their afternoon match against Oban Celtic at the Bught Park thanks to a Dougie Rankin strike on 18 minutes. However Kenny Wotherspoon drew Oban Celtic level just 4 minutes later and that’s the way it stayed until the half time break. Inverness were able to field their three new pre-season signings with former Kinlochshiel player Zander Grant starting in defence, Liam Girvan, who rejoined the club after a spell with Glenurquhart, in midfield and former Lochcarron and Aberdour player Jamie MacLennan was in attack. Connor Golabek put Inverness back in front on 65 minutes and Charlie MacDonald was credited with their third goal just 5 minutes later. This was a close encounter but the Capital side ran out 3-1 winners.
Inverness 1 Ballachulish 9 The Inverness and Ballachulish reserve sides had a noon meeting at the Bught Park, Inverness. Andy Henderson put the home side ahead after 11 minutes. However Ballachulish levelled on 31 minutes when Grant MacKenzie, back in the fold after a spell with Kilmallie, made it 1-1. Balla’ then took the initiative and they led 4-1 at the break before adding five more second half goals to round off a 9-1 triumph. Grant MacKenzie took his tally to five goals whilst Patrick MacLean netted twice and Michael Slezas and Lewis Bryson got the others.
Lochaber P Newtonmore P The match between Lochaber and Newtonmore at Spean Bridge was called off earlier in the week with Lochaber citing team raising difficulties.
Lochside Rovers P Newtonmore P The lunchtime meeting between Lochside Rovers and the Newtonmore second string was postponed as Mossfield was unplayable.
Liz Young Sixes – The Dell, Kingussie Kingussie held the annual Liz Young Sixes at the Dell. Six teams were picked from the full Kingussie squad with each team including one player from the Badenoch & Strathspey Ladies team. The sides played eachother twice in a round-robin league before the top four sides contested the semi final stage. The tournament was eventually won by the Orange team of: Michael Clark, Robert Mabon, Rory MacKeachan, Thomas Borthwick. Sophie Paterson and Andrew Kennedy. The trophy was presented to Orange captain Michael Clark by Derek Young. The only down-side for Kingussie was an injury to Paul Gow which means he will miss the start of the season.
Lovat 1 Lochcarron 1 (Lochcarron won 3-2 on penalties) Lochcarron lifted the Roddy Blind Cup thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over the Lovat second team in their 1pm meeting at Balgate. The match was level at 1-1 after half an hour with Iain MacKenzie scoring for Lochcarron and Fraser Gallacher on target for Lovat. With no further scoring, the match went to a penalty shoot-out which Lochcarron won 3-2.
North Skye P South Skye P The Ewen Morrison Memorial Cup match between North Skye and South Skye was switched from Pairc nan Laoch to the Portree High School all-weather pitch. However the astro pitch was deemed unplayable after an overnight covering of snow. This was disappointing with players travelling from Glasgow and Stornoway and the clash will now be rescheduled for a later date. (This page will be updated if any other results are confirmed) |
