2013 London Shield Final – Fort William U17 2 Newtonmore U17 1 | |
27 October 2013 Fort William U17 lifted the London Shield with a 2-1 win over Newtonmore U17 in the final at the Dell on Saturday 26 October 2013. Fort William reached the final with a 1-0 extra time win over Lochaber whilst Newtonmore beat Kinlochshiel 5-2 in their last four clash. The sides had also met in this year’s Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final with an understrength Fort William side eventually running out 4-3 extra time winners after a terrific match in which Grant Disher got an extra time winner. Newtonmore were without the suspended Sam Richardson for this 1.30pm throw up as he was sent off in the semi final win over Kinlochshiel. Newtonmore took the lead on 14 minutes through Jordan Beaton. An Alexander MacMillan goal on 27 minutes left the final all-square at the half time interval. The winning goal came just 3 minutes from time and it was Fort William’s Lewis Morrison who got the vital strike. The final ended on a sour note as referee Evan MacRae had to send off Fort William pair Ewen MacQueen and Jay MacLeod and Liam Mullender of Newtonmore after a scuffle broke out. Fort William captain Arran MacPhee was presented with the London Shield by Steve Bracken from Marine Harvest. So Fort William add the London Shield to the Co-operative MacTavish Cup and the MacRae & Dick Strathdearn Sixes, won earlier in the season. |
