2013 HebCelt Shinty - Camanachd Leòdhais 7 Uist Camanachd 0 | |
23 July 2013 Lewis Camanachd won back the Hebridean Celtic Festival Inter-Island Challenge Cup following a 7-0 win over Uist Camanachd at Bayhead on Saturday 20 July 2013. Uist Camanachd were holders going into the game as holders after a tense penalty shoot-out victory over their rivals in 2012. However this 2pm throw up was a more one-sided affair with the more experienced Lewis side coming out on top in front of an excited crowd Duncan MacIntyre was Lewis Camanachd’s top marksman with four goals. Will Church bagged a brace and Lewis stalwart Donald Lamont got the other. Lewis fought hard and youth defender Joseph MacInnes, who had recently been nominated “Most Improved Player at the Camanachd Association Youth Development Camp, starred in defence before injury forced him off the field of play. Camanachd Association Director Angus MacVicar presented the trophy to Lewis captain for the day, Daniel Gallagher. The match was refereed by Matt ‘Baffi’ Mossop from Cornwall Shinty Club and English Shinty Association. The Festival again kindly provided after match hospitality to both teams.
