2013 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – Quarter Final Draw | |
05 June 2013 The draw for the 2013 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup quarter finals was made at The Commando Memorial, Spean Bridge, on Monday 3 June 2013. Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson and historian Hugh Dan MacLennan drew the names out of the hat for the ties which will take place on 6 July 2013. Holders Kyles Athletic have been given a home tie against Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Beauly. It is a number of years since the sides have met and both sets of players will look forward to this one. The tie of the round is the clash between Kingussie and Kinlochshiel at the Dell. ‘Shiel have enjoyed recent success at the Dell and they put Kingussie out of the Artemis Macaulay Cup at the same venue earlier in the season. They also eliminated Kingussie from last season’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup, also at the Dell. However Kingussie, with Ronald Ross back in the side, saved their best form of the season to inflict Lovat’s first defeat of the season in the previous round. Newtonmore, who were 9-0 home winners over Strachur in the second round, have been given another home tie against lower league opposition as they await the winners of this week’s clash between Caberfeidh and Glenorchy. Whoever comes out on top in the replay between Glenurquhart and Lochaber will have home advantage against Fort William. We could have Glen co-manager Drew Mcneil facing his former club, Fort William, with whom he has enjoyed so much success in this competition or we could have Lochaber and Fort William meeting in a derby tie. Commenting on the quarter final draw, Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson said, “We have a potential Lochaber derby and the ‘big four’ of Kingussie, Newtonmore, Kyles and Fort William are still apart, so there are a lot of excellent ties to come. The last couple of years have thrown up special finals and that could still happen here, the way the draw has worked. It will be very interesting to see what transpires.” The full draw is: Newtonmore v Caberfeidh / Glenorchy Lochaber / Glenurquhart v Fort William Kyles Athletic v Beauly Kingussie v Kinlochshiel The remaining second round ties will be played on Saturday 8 June 2013 with the quarter finals taking place on Saturday 6 July 2013. |
