2012 Macaulay National Sixes Success For Kingussie & Inverlochy - UPDATED! | |
10 June 2012 Kingussie and Inverlochy took the honours at the 2012 Macaulay National Sixes Tournament at Mossfield, Oban on Saturday 9 June 2012. A full day's shinty for primary school aged players started in brilliant sunshine at 10.30am. A total of 32 players and 280 players took part in this superbly run event. There were two main competitions. The senior event (P7 & under) for the Ian Cummings Memorial Cup was won by Kingussie for the first time since 1996 as they beat Ballachulish 6-1 in the final. Ballachulish over-came Inverlochy in the quarter-finals and St Columbas in the semi-finals - both by a 1-0 score. Kingussie made the final with a 1-0 win over Banavie in the quarter-finals and a 2-0 victory over Rockfield in the last four. The junior event (P5 & under) for the Alistair Campbell Shield was won by Inverlochy who beat Lochaber 3-0 in the final. Lochaber were 4-2 winners over Tighnabruaich in the semi-finals whilst Lochaber edged the Boys of the Dell 3-2 at the same stage. This was the 29th time this competition took place and the other awards were as follows; Lochcarron Quaich for Best Girl Player - Chloe Wilson (Tighnabruaich) Hector Campbell Award for Best Boy Player - Kieran MacPherson (Kingussie) Peter English Trophy for Sportsmanship & Endeavour - Inveraray
