2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – Semi-Final Draw | |
17 July 2012 The semi-final draw for the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup was made LIVE on Radio Scotland’s John Beattie on Tuesday 17 July 2012. The home teams were drawn by Scottish Hydro Sponsorship Manager, and former Scotland Rugby internationalist, Jonny Petrie. Camanachd Association Director of Communications, Donald Stewart drew the away teams. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi-finals will take place over successive Saturdays next month and the draw brings together two North V South clashes; Saturday 4 August 2012 - Kinlochshiel v Inveraray Saturday 11 August 2012 - Kyles Athletic v Newtonmore / Lochaber The venues for each of the semi-finals will be confirmed shortly. Both semi-final ties will be televised LIVE on BBC Alba. Kinlochshiel beat Lovat to reach the last four of shinty’s premier competition whilst Inveraray out-gunned Kilmallie. Inveraray and Kinlochshiel met on league duty at the Winterton earlier in the season when the home side ran out convincing winners. However ‘Shiel’s form this season suggests they had an off-day and their semi-final meeting is sure to be a much closer affair. The quarter-final tie between Newtonmore and Lochaber was postponed last weekend because of a bereavement and it will now take place on Saturday 28 July 2012. The winners will face Kyles Athletic who came out on top against Skye Camanachd in the last round. Jonny Petrie said, “This is a great opportunity for the clubs who have made the semi-finals to really showcase the game of shinty. We’re very proud to be involved with the sport, particularly at this time of year when the excitement within all the communities involved is building towards the final.” Donald Stewart added, ‘Scottish Hydro & the BBC are both valuable partners in helping to develop & promote shinty, Scotland’s indigenous sport, and I’m sure that we can expect another memorable Final’. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final takes place at Mossfield Park, Oban on Saturday 15 September 2012 and will be televised on BBC 2 Scotland. |
