Skye Camanachd Set To Host Fifth Iomain Cholmcille. | |
19 December 2011 Skye Camanachd is set to host the fifth Iomain Cholmcille with a revamped event set to take place at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree in 2012. The event will centre around a one-day tournament which will see four teams, two shinty (Alba Select & Skye Camanachd Gaelic Speakers) and two hurling (Micheal Breathnach GAA & Gaeiligori Ulaidh), compete for the Corn Cholmcille trophy in Portree, Isle of Skye. The two shinty sides will face off against eachother, as will the hurlers, to decide who goes forward to compete in the compromise rules final and who will compete in the third-place play-off. There will also be fringe events including ceilidhs, concerts, Irish lessons and youth coaching in the lead up to the event. The principal aim is to encourage the use of Gaelic in a sporting context on and off the park and the principal outcomes will be the expansion of the Iomain Cholmcille initiative to new areas as well as strengthening those areas already involved.
