08 August 2011 Lewis Camanachd B won the 2011 Stornoway Shinty Sixes to clinch the Craig Morrison Shield at Bayhead Park, Stornoway on Saturday 23 July 2011. The competition ended up being an all-Lewis affair as many mainland teams had other commitments. That included Skye Camanachd A who were the inaugural champions in 2010. They were hosting the Balliemore Cup Final between Bute and Caberfeidh at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree that same day. However there was some excellent play in evidence from the competing teams before Lewis B emerged victorious. The tournament is dedicated to the memory of Craig Morrison, a Lewis Camanachd player who was tragically killed in an accident in the summer of 2009 at the age of 20. Craig was a passionate shinty player and was a dedicated trainer. His father was in attendance for part of the tournament and the club are committed to ensuring that the tournament goes from strength to strength in the coming years. Camanachd Leodhais manager Paul Duke said, “It was a great day for everyone to just come together and remember Craig and we all had a lot of fun just playing shinty, which is what Craig enjoyed the most.” |
