23 June 2011 It is the South’s turn to take the spotlight this weekend as Oban Camanachd and Kyles Athletic meet at The Winterton in the Celtic Society Cup Final on Saturday 25 June 2011. Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final Oban Camanachd v Kyles Athletic Oban Camanachd and Kyles Athletic meet at The Winterton in the 2011 Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final. Inveraray have been dominant in this competition in recent years and Kyles have beaten their Oban opponents twice this season already. Doubles from Fraser MacDonald and Roddy MacDonald helped Kyles to a 5-2 win when the sides met at Mossfield in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup at the start of the month. Oban’s Aiden MacIntyre and Kyles Grant Irvine will be players to watch. Billy Wotherspoon is the match referee. Strathdearn Cup - Quarter Final Fort William v Lovat Fort William and Lovat bid for a Strathdearn Cup semi final spot when they play at An Aird. Fort William have shown the better form of late and with home advantage, they will start as favourites. However they continue to be without injured forward Jack Fraser whilst defender Cameron Grant is also out with an ankle injury. Skye Camanachd v Newtonmore Skye Camanachd have reserved their best form for the cup competitions this season but they have a difficult challenge when Newtonmore visit Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Teenage hot-shot Jordan Murchison will miss out for Skye with a hip injury whilst his strike partner, U14 player Will Cowie, is out with a broken thumb. Newtonmore have been put together a good run of results and have beaten Skye twice already this season. Balliemore Cup - Semi Final Lochaber v Bute There is a 12 noon throw up at Taynuilt as Lochaber and Bute meet for the chance to meet Caberfeidh in the Balliemore Cup Final at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 23 July 2011. Michael Delaney’s Lochaber side has Scottish international Neil MacDonald nearing full fitness following a leg break suffered against Kinlochshiel earlier in the season and he may be able to play some part in this one. Bute ran Kyles Athletic close in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup last weekend when it took extra time to separate the sides. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Newtonmore v Lovat Scottish Hydro Premier Division champions Newtonmore have the chance to close the gap on leaders Kyles Athletic to a single point when they play Lovat at the Eilan. Lovat proved difficult opponents for ‘More at the start of the season. The sides were level at 3-3 in the second half before the wintery play forced abandonment. Jamie Matheson should return for Lovat after missing last week’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup win over Glenorchy because he was cup-tied. Kilmallie v Kingussie Co-operative MacTavish Cup winners Kingussie head for the Canal Parks to face the Kilmallie side they defeated in the 2010 final. Kilmallie’s Euan Stoddart misses for the second successive week because of work commitments. Kingussie will be without Louis Munro and his season is over after breaking his collar-bone last weekend. The Kings also have a doubt over captain Ronald Ross who picked up a nasty hand injury last week and he may not be risked with the Scottish Camanachd Cup tie in Bute only a week away. Glenurquhart v Fort William Glenurquhart ran Newtonmore close last week and they face another of the title challengers when Fort William visit Blairbeg. Eddie Tembo is still likely to be missing for Glenurquhart for a match which throws up a 3.30pm. The Fort were without Neil Robertson and Liam MacIntyre last week but one of them should return for this one. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Kinlochshiel v Skye Camanachd League leaders Kinlochshiel have a derby meeting with Skye Camanachd at Kirkton. This match will take ‘Shiel half-way through their league programme and their six wins out of six so far this season makes them early title favourites. Kinlochshiel keeper Graham Kennedy is a major doubt with a groin problem but manager Johnston Gill will give him every opportunity to make the game otherwise reserve goalie Iain Cameron will continue to deputise. Skye boss Aonghas MacDonald will be without brothers Steven Morrison and Danny Morrison. Inverness v Beauly Inverness and Beauly meet at the Bught Park. The midfield battle could be crucial in this one with both sides effective in the middle of the park. Conor Cormack, David MacLean and Barrie MacDonald provide a formidable trio for Beauly whilst Inverness are no slouches in the centre line too and Craig Nicolson’s shys from the middle of the park are a real threat. Lochcarron v Strathglass Strathglass head for the west coast for the third consecutive Saturday. After trips to play Kinlochshiel and Skye Camanachd, they head for Battery Park to go up against Lochcarron. Strathglass manager Brian MacKay will hope to have Garry Reid back after he missed games because of a shoulder injury and work commitments. However Scott Douglas will miss the rest of the season following his leg break against Fort William. Throw up is at 3pm. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Glengarry v Lochaber Glengarry will look to bounce back from last week’s defeat at Kinlochshiel when Lochaber make the short trip to Invergarry. U17 forward Ewan Brady has been a real handful for opposing defenders this season and he will have to be watched carefully. Kingussie v Kilmallie Whilst the Kilmallie and Kingussie senior side meet at the Canal Parks, their reserve sides line up at the Dell. Kingussie are likely to lose Martin Dallas to first team duty. Visitors Kilmallie picked up a morale-boosting point against Lovat last week. This match will be played on Friday 24 June 2011 with a 7.30pm throw up. Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lochbroom v Aberdeen University League leaders Aberdeen University head for Ullapool to play Lochbroom. The Students are already closing in on the title and promotion to Marine Harvest North Division 2. Inverness v Caberfeidh There is a 12 noon throw up at the Bught Park where Inverness host Caberfeidh. Inverness will have the option of using some of their first team fringe players with both capital sides playing at home. Beauly v Ardnamurchan Beauly and Ardnamurchan clash at Braeview Park. A Danny Marshall hat-trick helped Beauly to a 7-1 win when the sides met earlier in the season. Lochcarron v Lewis Camanachd Lochcarron and Lewis Camanachd meet at Battery Park. Finlay Stark and Adam Preston scored doubles when Lochcarron won 9-0 at Shawbost. This match throws up a 1pm. Strathglass v Boleskine Strathglass take on Boleskine at Cannich. Boleskine were given a walk-over earlier in the season when Strathglass were unable to raise a team for their trip to Farr. |
