Lovat U17 0 Skye Camanachd U17 5 | |
31 May 2011 The Skye Camanachd U17 side took both points from their opening London Shield match with a 5-0 win over Lovat U17 at Balgate on Tuesday 10 May 2011. Skye enjoyed the vast majority of the first half pressure but they just couldn’t convert their chances into goals. It should also be said that the Lovat defence was well marshaled by the “more experienced” duo of skipper Michael MacKenzie and Thomas Fraser. The closest they came in the first half were from a Will Cowie shot which went just over the junction between bar and post and an Angie Grant shot which was deflected wide for a corner. Just 2 minutes before the break, Lovat keeper Matthew MacInnes made a brilliant save from a Jordan Murchison rocket shot. The half time break seemed to settle Skye and they took the lead just 2 minutes into the second half when a Jordan Murchison snap-shot gave Lovat keeper MacInnes no chance. Murchison netted his second 14 minutes into the second half when he got on the end of a Mark Mortimer corner to score. Murchison almost completed his hat-trick 26 minutes into the second period when his shot cannoned back off the post but Magnus Burd was on hand to roll the rebound into the net. Skye were now in full flow and a Will Cowie back-hand shot made it 4-0 just a couple of minutes later. Skye keeper Iain MacLeod had little to do throughout the game but he had to look lively on 71 minutes when he saved a shot from substitute Mark Kelly with his hand. Jordan Murchison got on the end of a poor clearance 7 minutes from the end and he fired low into the net to complete his hat-trick with 7 minutes remaining. Skye full centre Shaun Hedley sent a 30 yard effort just wide of goal 5 minutes from the end. Lovat almost scored a consolation goal a minute later when a good free hit from Scott MacKenzie found Connal MacIllechiar wide on the left but his shot went past the post. Skye suffered a blow in the closing minutes when buckshee back Ally MacLeod received an accidental blow to the hand and a later x-ray confirmed a broken thumb. Skye will be pleased to have played their opening London Shield match after their game against Beauly U17 was rescheduled. Shaun Hedley and Jordan Murchison were their top performers. Lovat U17 were well served by Michael MacKenzie, Thomas Fraser and keeper Matthew MacInnes and they were a much younger side than Skye, especially up front. However a tenacious performance from 12 year old Scott MacKenzie caught the eye and the youngster looks to be one for the future.
