Beauly 8 Skye Camanachd 0. | |
18 May 2011 Skye Camanachd went down to a 8-0 defeat to Beauly at Braeview Park in their Balliemore Cup quarter final tie on Saturday 14 May 2011. Skye boss Aonghas MacDonald made five changes to the squad which lost in Bute last weekend. Darryl Macintosh missed out with a broken finger and he joined Steven Morrison who is working and injured trio Danny Morrison, Robbie MacDougall and Jamie MacDonald on a lengthy absentee list. Ally MacDonald, Calum Gibb and Davie MacVicar returned to second team duty whilst Iain Morrison was also on second team duty. However Alan Palmer, Iain Murray and Iain Nicolson returned to the squad and there were call-ups for youngsters Jordan Murchison and Paul MacKinnon. Beauly made one change to the side which narrowly lost out to Kinlochshiel in last week’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup first round tie at Kirkton with Iain Broadhead replacing Innes Simpson at buckshee back. Beauly took an early lead when Scotland U17 cap Jack MacDonald fired past Michael Nicolson to put the home side in front after just 5 minutes. Jamie MacLennan made it 2-0 on 16 minutes and when Sean Stewart made it 3-0 a couple of minutes later, things were already beginning to look bleak for Skye. Marc MacLachlan made it 4-0 on the half hour mark and Sean Stewart added his second just 60 seconds later. Jamie MacLennan netted his second a couple of minutes before the break to leave Beauly 6-0 ahead and the Islanders in a state of shell-shock. Sean Stewart completed his hat-trick on 53 minutes and Conor Ross got in on the act with a goal on the hour mark which meant Beauly’s eight goals were shared between their four forwards. Fortunately for Skye there was no further scoring in the final half hour and the closest the Islanders came to a consolation goal was a Somhairle MacDonald shot which came back of the post and a good chance for debutant Paul MacKinnon he put past the post. This was a poor Skye performance but credit to Stephen MacLean’s Beauly side who were ruthless in front of goal and now have a semi final tie against Caberfeidh to look forward to.
