16 April 2011 Kyles Athletic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Hydro Premier Division title race on Saturday 16 April 2011. Scottish Hydro Premier Division The match of the day in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division was at the Eilan where two of the title favourites clashed as Newtonmore met Kyles Athletic. Glen MacKintosh put ‘More ahead from the penalty spot after just 9 minutes. However Grant Irvine ensured the visitors went home with a share of the points when he netted after 73 minutes. Kyles are now four points clear at the top of the league. Second place Kingussie were 4-0 down to third place Fort William with just 10 minutes remaining. However the vistors rallied and late goals from Thomas Borthwick, Rory Borthwick and Lee Bain just weren’t just enough to complete an incredible come-back so the Fort ran out 4-3 winners. A Gordie MacKinnon double and strikes from Gary Innes and James Clark were on target for Fort William. Oban Camanachd halted a run of two successive home defeats with a 5-0 triumph over Glenorchy at Mossfield. Aiden MacIntyre grabbed a hat-trick and the result leaves Glenorchy three points adrift at the bottom of the table. Second half goals from Lewis MacLennan and David Smart gave Glenurquhart a 3-1 derby win over Lovat at Balgate. The win lifts the Glen into a lofty third place in the league. Liam MacDonald and John Stewart scored twice as Kilmallie beat Inveraray in an impressive 5-2 win at the Canal Parks. Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Preliminary Round A Darren Reid hat-trick helped Strathglass through to the first round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup in a 5-0 win at Aberdour. Marine Harvest North Division 1 The MacRae brothers grabbed the headlines as Marine Harvest North Division 1 league leaders Kinlochshiel took the points following a tricky west coast local derby meeting with Lochcarron at Battery Park. Finlay MacRae scored twice and Keith MacRae and John MacRae got the others. Second place Lochaber won 3-1 against Skye Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Ben Delaney continued his good scoring run with a double. Skye are bottom of the table. Caberfeidh returned from Braeview Park with the points following a 2-1 win over Beauly. Stuart Krysanowski and Kevin Bartlett got their goals. Marine Harvest South Division 1 A Robert Walker brace ensured pace setters Bute were 2-0 winners at Tighnabruaich against Kyles Athletic. Two goals in the first 11 minutes from Alan Duffy and Lee Askew put Oban Celtic 2-0 ahead in the Oban derby. However a Malcolm Clark double, the leveller coming just 3 minutes from time, earned second place Lochside Rovers a point in a 2-2 draw. Lochside Rovers stay in second in the table. Glasgow Mid Argyll and Taynuilt drew 4-4 at Yoker. Patrick Jamieson scored twice for Mid Argyll whilst player / manager Fraser Inglis and Stuart Scott each netted twice for Taynuilt. Ballachulish beat Kilmory 2-1 at Jubilee Park with Donald Wilson getting the winner 20 minutes from time. . Marine Harvest North Division 2 Newtonmore leap-frogged league leaders Glengarry to go top of the table on goal difference following their 9-0 win over Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. Chris Sellar and Callum Stewart each scored hat-tricks. A John MacKinnon goal three minutes before the break put Glengarry on the way to a 5-0 win over Skye Camanachd at Craigard. Fort William beat Kingussie 5-3 at the Dell with Daniel Stewart scoring four times. In form Glenurquhart went down 4-3 to bottom side Lovat at Blairbeg. At Spean Bridge, the home side Lochaber beat Kilmallie 4-1 with Conor Sweeney scoring twice. Marine Harvest South Division 2 With Tayforth and Col Glen not in action, second place Strachur took the chance to top the table with a 1-0 win over fourth place Bute. Angus Campbell got the all-important goal. Both Inveraray and Glasgow Mid Argyll had two points apiece form their opening games and they meet at the Winterton. However Inveraray ran out convincing 7-1 winners but they did benefit from Russell MacKinlay’s inclusion and he scored four times. The bottom two sides in Marine Harvest North Division meet as a goal from Conor MacPherson gave Aberdour a 1-0 win over Ballachulish. Marine Harvest North Division 3 Aberdeen University remain top of the table and they maintain their 100% record with a 3-1 win over Beauly. John Searn scored twice for the Students whilst Brian Slattery got the other. Calum Forbes got Beauly’s goal. Second place Boleskine were 8-3 winners at Ardnamurchan. Ian Grant was a hat-trick hero whilst Raymond Robertson and Ewan Fraser got doubles and Lewis Smith got the other for Boleskine. Doubles from Gary MacLennan and Kirk Taylor gave Caberfeidh a 4-0 win over Lewis Camanachd in their 12.30pm throw up at Castle Leod. Late goals from Kenny Cushnie and David Bauermeister meant Lochcarron and neighbours Lochbroom drew 3-3 at Battery Park. Finally, in what seems like a day of derby matches, Strathglass lost 5-2 to Inverness at Cannich. Inverness were boosted by the inclusion of James Cameron as they had no first team game and he helped himself to a hat-trick. |
