04 December 2010 Skye Camanachd Get Title Boost As Kingussie Slip Up. Skye Camanachd’s title chances received a major boost when title rivals Kingussie suffered their first league defeat in 3 years when they lost 2-1 to Fort William. This was a gutsy performance by a Fort William side which went 2-0 up midway through the first half with quick-fire goals from Victor Smith and Drew McNeil. It took an inspirational performance from Scotland and Fort William keeper Graeme MacMillan to keep the Kingussie forwards at bay before he was eventually beaten by a superb solo Kevin Thain effort. However Fort William held on to inflict the King’s first league defeat since they lost 3-2 to Newtonmore almost exactly 3 years earlier in January 1987. The defeat leaves Kingussie on 17 points in the league from 10 games played. Kingussie have just 4 games to go. Their only home match is against Beauly whilst they have away trips to Newtonmore, Caberfeidh and a potential league title-decider against Skye Camanachd. Skye Camanachd have 14 points from 8 games played so they can go a point clear at the top if they win both their games in hand. Skye have 6 games remaining. Home matches against Beauly, Kinlochshiel and Kingussie and away to Lovat, Beauly and Fort William. |
