Scotland Head Coach McNeil Expects Tough Irish Challenge. | |
27 October 2010 Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil and his coaching team expect a tough challenge from Ireland in the Shinty / Hurling international at Croke Park on Saturday 30 October 2010. Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil said, “Tommy Walsh will captain the Irish team again this year as we expected and he is a top hurler. The squad also includes the likes of Gareth “Magic” Johnston who was also keen to take part against us again this year.” “Joe Dooley continues in charge of the Irish side and his son Shane will be there too and he was amongst the points last year. Both Dooley and Walsh are nominees for this year’s Irish Opel GPA Team of the Year." The Scotland Head Coach put the challenge ahead in context. “There are 100,000 hurlers and the Irish normally select 2 hurlers from the third tier and 2 hurlers from the second tier. These guys are normally champions in the season at their particular level. It is a massive privilege and chance for them to show that although they may be from a “lesser” county, they are great hurlers. It’s often their only chance to play at Croke Park among the elite. They come motivated.” A defiant McNeil concluded, “It will be a strong Irish team, have no doubts about. However I also have no fears about taking them on either.” |
