Successful Day At Milngavie & Bearsden Tournament For Portree Primary School Teams. | |
05 October 2010 Portree Primary School had a successful day at the annual Milngavie & Bearsden Tournament on Saturday 2 October 2010. Portree Primary School won the P6/7 competition whilst the P4/5 side were runners up it their tournament. The P6/7s triumphed over St Columba in the final, winning 1-0 with an extra time golden goal from Conor Ross. The Portree youngsters played well throughout the day. Keeper Iain P MacKenzie did not conceding a goal in the 5 games played whilst captain and new full back Niall McHugh didn’t put a foot wrong all day. Caitlin MacLean and James Pringle dominated the centre of the park and ran all day. Alasdair Murchison was always in the right place at the right time to score important goals and substitute Calum Williams played really well in all the out-field positions during the tournament. Conor Ross was always a threat in the forward line and he of course scored the only goal of the final. Portree Primary School P6/7 from: Iain P MacKenzie, Calum Williams, Alasdair Murchison, James Pringle, Niall McHugh (captain), Conor Ross, Caitlin MacLean The P4/5 side lost 4-0 to a very good Rockfield team in their final. The Portree youngsters lost a couple of soft goals in the final and it was actually a closer game than score suggests. During the tournament, Stewart Taylor scored a lot of goals for Portree playing at full centre and he was the player of the tournament in many spectators opinion. The team played some really good shinty and their performances showed that the future is bright for Portree Primary School shinty. The players had a great time and their behaviour was a credit to their school. Special thanks are due to the parents from Milngavie & Bearsden who once again showed fantastic hospitality by putting up the Portree players on the Friday night. |
