Big Day Ahead For Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final Officials. | |
16 September 2010 Billy Wotherspoon and his team of officials’ face a big day in this year’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final between Kingussie and Fort William which takes place at the Bught Park Inverness on Saturday 18 September 2010. Match referee Billy Wotherspoon has refereed the Artemis Macaulay Cup and Co-operative MacTavish Cup Finals already this season and he will be assisted on the big day by goal judges John MacLeod from Skye and Ron Millican from Kiltarlity. Graham Cameron is the fourth official whilst Dornie referee Donald MacRae, Graham Irving, Evan MacRae and Robert Morrison will be the linesmen. Kingussie and Fort William last met in the 2008 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final when Kingussie were unhappy with the heavy treatment dished out to forward Ronald Ross. His marker Adam Robertson was eventually booked by referee Colin MacDonald before he was substituted later in the game. Speaking at an area club / member meeting in Kyle of Lochalsh following the final, Camanachd Association President Duncan Cameron was asked whether he thought the clash between Fort William and Kingussie, and in particular the rough treatment dished out to Kingussie’s Ronald Ross, was a good example to younger players and a good advert for shinty to the large crowd and television audience. Cameron replied, “It was not a game that we could be particularly proud of.” He also didn’t think the final was a good advert for shinty and he remarked that after one particularly robust challenge, a Sportscotland official asked, “Does this game had any rules at all?” Wotherspoon and his team of officials will want to keep a tight grip on this clash and will hope that this weekend’s final passes without any similar controversy. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final at the Bught Park, Inverness throws up at 2.20pm. Admission for a fantastic day’s shinty is £10 and £5 for concessions. The final will also be shown live on BBC2 Scotland where coverage starts at 2pm. Iain Anderson and Hugh Dan MacLennan are the match commentators. |
