Scotland Senior & U21 Shinty / Hurling Preparations Continue. | |
24 August 2010 Preparations for the 2010 Senior and U21 Shinty / Hurling series against Ireland continue with a testing session at Jubilee Park, Ballachulish on Sunday 29 August 2010. This is the third phase of the selection process set out by Scotland senior Head Coach Drew McNeil and his Scotland U21 counterpart Donnie Martin and their respective coaching teams. The first phase involved clubs putting forward players for the respective squads and providing information on the nominated players’ skills. Phase two saw the squad coaches watch the nominated players in action and they have selected players for the third phase. The third phase sees the selected players attend one of two testing sessions where they will be tested on a range of station skills including; fitness, shooting / defending, blocking / tackling a running player and ball control / passing. Around 40 senior and U21 players will attend the first testing session at Jubilee Park, Ballachulish on Sunday 29 August 2010 which starts at 1.30pm. A further 40 senior and U21 players will attend the second testing session at Braeview Park, Beauly on Sunday 5 September 2010 and this session also starts at 1.30pm. The squads will then be trimmed further by the national coaches before the next phase on Sunday 26 September 2010. Kingussie fitness coach Neil Bowman will also be in attendance at both sessions. Skye Camanachd’s Jamie Gannon is part of the third stage Scotland senior squad whilst Islanders Iain Nicolson and Kerr Gibb are part of the third stage Scotland U21 squad. All shinty coaches and team managers are invited to attend any of the national squad sessions where there will be an opportunity to assist or ask questions. |
