Artemis Macaulay Cup Final………….2 Days To Go! | |
19 August 2010 The Artemis Macaulay Cup Final between Kingussie and Inveraray takes place at Mossfield, Oban on Saturday 21 August 2010. Holders Inveraray have made a convincing return to the final, scoring 26 goals without replay in their 3 ties. First Round Inveraray had a massive 10-0 win over Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Oban Celtic at Ganavan in the opening round. Grant Griffin got them off to a great start when he scored in the opening minute. Gary MacPherson made it 2-0 just 3 minutes later and he made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after 16 minutes. Chris Crawford made it 4-0 after 24 minutes and Griffin added his second on 42 minutes. MacPherson completed his hat-trick a minute later to give the visitors a 6-0 half time lead. Grant Griffin then completed his hat-trick on 49 minutes and he scored his fourth on the hour mark to make it 8-0. Not to be out-done, MacPherson also scored his fourth goal 2 minutes later. David Robertson made it 10-0 on 71 minutes and with almost 20 minutes to go and Oban Celtic must have feared the worst. However there was no further scoring and Inveraray went through to the next round. Quarter Final There was a 12 noon throw up at the Winterton where Inveraray and Glasgow Mid Argyll clashed. The visitors had enjoyed a morale boosting league win over Glenurquhart the previous weekend but they could hardly have been given a tougher Macaulay draw as Inveraray held a 100% home record ahead of the tie. In the end, Inveraray were too strong for Mid Argyll and ran out 7-0 winners. The effective Russell MacKinlay scored on 22 and 28 minutes to give Inveraray a 2-0 lead and Chris Crawford added another on the stroke of half time. MacKinlay completed his hat-trick a minute into the second half and Gary MacPherson made it 5-0 on 53 minutes. MacPherson added his second 10 minutes later whilst Ruaraidh Graham completed the scoring on 75 minutes. Semi Final Inveraray and Bute met at Mossfield to decide the South representatives for the final. The sides drew 2-2 at Rothesay in May and unfortunately for Bute, Roberto Zavaroni was serving the second game of a 2 match ban after receiving a red card against Lovat a fortnight earlier. It was Inveraray who turned out convincing winners following a 9-0 triumph. Neil Andrew scored 4, Grant Griffin bagged a double and Garry MacPherson, Ewan MacMurdo and Lewis MacNicol got the others. The Artemis Macaulay Cup Final is live on BBC 2 and throw up is at 2.25pm. |
