14 August 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 14 August 2010 are……….. Scottish Hydro Premier Division There’s no change at the summit of shinty’s top division following Saturday’s matches. Newtonmore hold on to their 2 point lead following a 3-1 win over Bute. Danny MacRae got them off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute but Hector Whitelaw equalised on 15 minutes. MacRae added his second on 66 minutes and a goal from full centre Jamie Robinson 4 minutes from time secured the points. Fort William remain in hot pursuit of the leaders and they beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 5-1 at An Aird. A 4 minute strike from Victor Smith gave them the lead but an Innes MacMillan snapshot 5 minutes from the break squared the game. Second half doubles from James Clark and Gary Innes won Fort William the points. The Fort trail Newtonmore by 2 points but have 2 games in hand. Third place Inveraray enjoyed most of the pressure against Glenurquhart at Blairbeg but only came away with a point following a 2-2 draw. A first half double from Grant Griffin put Inveraray 2-0 up but goals either side of the break from Neale Reid won the Glen a valuable point. A Barrie Dallas goal on 35 minutes was enough to give Kingussie a 1-0 win over Oban Camanachd at the Dell. The King’s had other chances in front of goal but missed the prowess of the injured Ronald Ross. Marine Harvest North Division 1 It’s advantage Lochaber and Kilmallie in the race to win promotion to the Premier Division. Leaders Lochaber overpowered Skye Camanachd with 3 goals in the last half hour at Spean Bridge. Doubles from Donald MacRae and Shaun Nicolson keep Michael Delaney’s side out in front whilst Somhairle MacDonald scored for Skye. Kilmallie were in ruthless form as they beat Strathglass 11-0 at Canal Parks. Kilmallie had 7 different scorers with John Stewart and Peter MacIntyre grabbing the headlines with a hat-trick each. Goals from MacRae brothers John, Finlay and Keith cancelled Alan MacKenzie’s opener to put Kinlochshiel 3-1 up at Lochcarron. However 2 goals in the last 5 minutes from Gregor Cushnie and Ian MacKenzie ensured the points were shared and the result probably suits neither side. A second half goal from Sean Stewart cancelled out a first half effort from Gordie Gray as Beauly drew 1-1 with Inverness. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glenorchy completed their league programme with a 100% record following their 6-1 win in Oban against Lochside Rovers. They can now look forward to life in the Premier Division next season. Oban Celtic came from 2-0 down to beat Taynuilt 4-2. David Duffy in 74 minutes and David Hill in the last minute got the significant goals. A David MacPhee hat-trick helped Ballachulish to a 4-3 win in Inveraray. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Glenurquhart reduced Glengarry’s lead at the top of the table to 2 points with a 7-0 win over Beauly. Kelvin MacKenzie, Daniel MacKintosh and Ross MacAulay each bagged doubles and Ewan Brady got the other. The Glen also have a game in hand over leaders Garry. Daniel Stewart and Jack Fraser scored hat-tricks as Fort William beat Kingussie 6-2. Rory Borthwick scored both King’s goals. Drew MacDonald scored twice as Newtonmore beat Lovat 5-0 at the Eilan. Veterans Angie MacDonald with a double, Davie MacVicar and Peter Gordon were on target as Skye Camanachd beat Kilmallie 4-1 in Portree. Sebastian MacMillan scored for Kilmallie and was later sent off. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Kyles Athletic were confirmed as league champions following their 8-1 win in Bute. Stuart Ferrier scored a hat-trick as Tayforth beat Aberdour 5-1. Marine Harvest North Division 3 Aberdeen University stalwart Jamie Bell scored twice as the league leaders beat second place Lochaber 4-1. The Students now have a 6 point lead but Lochaber have 4 games in hand. Allan MacLeod set Inverness on their way to a 3-0 win over Strathglass. Lochcarron were unable to raise a team for their trip to Boleskine so the points went to the home side. |
