Scotland captain Gary Innes, who played at this weekend’s Hebridean Celtic Music Festival in Stornoway, made a Saturday morning dash and arrived in Oban just in time for the game. Gordie MacKinnon put Fort William ahead after only 3 minutes but Daniel MacIntyre leveled 5 minutes later. David MacInnes put Oban 2-1 up on the half hour mark and a Scott MacMillan strike on 41 minutes raised Oban hopes. If Oban could have held this lead to the break, things might have been different. As it was, 2 goals just before the break from James Clark and Gary Innes squared the tie. Bryan Simpson put the Fort 4-3 up on 53 minutes and Gordie MacKinnon scored his second on 83 minutes to seal a 5-3 victory. Oban’s cause wasn’t helped when David MacInnes received a red card from referee Duncan Kelly. Kingussie headed for Blairbeg to play Glenurquhart in the knowledge that they had won twice there already this season - in both the league and MacTavish Cup. Glenurquhart are on a tough run of fixtures at present having lost to Fort William and Newtonmore in their last two outings. However they had Lewis MacLennan back for this one. It was Kingussie who came out on top as a Ronald Ross double and a Ryan Borthwick strike gave them a 3-0 win and put them through to the last four. Ross scored his first just before the break and netted his second early in the second half. Ryan Borthwick completed the scoring 10 minutes from the end. South sides Inveraray and Kyles Athletic are already through to the semi final draw which will be made on Wednesday 21 July 2010. Marine Harvest South Division 2 side Glasgow Mid Argyll are through to the Bullough Cup final after they beat Marine Harvest South Division 1 side Lochside Rovers 4-0. Donald Colville got the Glasgow side off to a great start against an under-strength Rovers side when he scored in the first minute. Ian Luke added a second on 22 minutes to give his side a 2-0 interval lead. Colville added his second on 51 minutes and a Euan Forsyth strike on 63 minutes wrapped up a 4-0 win. Mid Argyll will now face Kyles Athletic, who are also in Marine Harvest South Division 2, in the final on Saturday 4 September 2010. Lovat beat Kingussie 5-1 at Balgate to win through to the final of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup. Lovat are already in the final of the Strathdearn Cup and they have been a good cup side in recent seasons. Marine Harvest U17 Player of the Year Greg Matheson bagged a hat-trick with goals on 10, 22 and 52 minutes to put Lovat 3-0 up before veteran Kevin Thain pulled a goal back for Kingussie. However Duncan Davidson made it 4-1 on 75 minutes and Lewis Tawse added a fifth 4 minutes later. Lovat now play Glenurquhart in the final on 31 July 2010 and this is a repeat of the 2010 Strathdearn Cup Final. Scottish Hydro Hydro Premier Division leaders Newtonmore put the disappointment of last weekend’s Camanachd Cup defeat to Kyles Athletic behind them when they racked up 15 goals – a Scottish Hydro Premier Division record - against Glasgow Mid Argyll at the Eilan. ‘More won 5-0 at Yoker in April with Danny MacRae scoring twice. However this time they mauled their opponents with the 4 ‘More forwards sharing all the goals between them. David Cheyne opened the scoring on 3 minutes and Danny MacRae made it 2-0 straight from the throw up. MacRae added his second on 14 minutes before Cheyne made it 4-0 on 20 minutes and he completed his hat-trick a minute later. Evan Menzies made it 6-0 with only 23 minutes played and Danny MacRae completed his hat-trick on 29 minutes. Cheyne scored his fourth on 36 minutes and a Danny MacRae strike on 41 minutes put the home side 9-0 up at the break. Newtonmore continued to pound the visiting defence in the second half and Evan Menzies scored on 55 minutes to make it 10-0. Danny MacRae scored his fifth goal just 3 minutes later and Steven MacDonald got in on the act to make it 12-0 on 63 minutes. Cheyne clinched a double hat-trick with goals on 76 and 87 minutes and Danny MacRae did like-wise on 89 minutes to round off a 15-0 win. Bute and Kyles Athletic met in a derby match at the Meadows. Kyles were 2-1 winners earlier in the season thanks to a Thomas Whyte double. Roberto Zavaroni scored for Bute that day but he was suspended for this one. A Roddy MacDonald double and a goal from Grant Irvine gave Kyles Athletic a 3-0 win which keeps them in fourth place. Inveraray took on Lovat at the Winterton. Inveraray have a 100% home record in both the league and cups this season and their forward line is particularly potent. Lovat were 4-2 winners when the sides met at Balgate in March with Greg Matheson, James MacPherson and a Fraser Gallagher double on target. However Lovat were under-strength for this one as Fraser Gallagher served the second of his 2 game ban, full back Martin Bell is on his honeymoon and Euan Ferguson missed out following an operation on Friday 9 July 2010. Greg Matheson stayed behind to play for the second team. However Calum Cruden returned from suspension. A Russell MacKinlay double put Inveraray 2-0 up but James MacPherson scored for Lovat 10 minutes from the end to set up a grand-stand finish. There was a Friday night clash in Marine Harvest North Division 1 when Lochcarron and Strathglass met at Battery Park. Finlay Stark struck after 5 minutes to put Lochcarron 1-0 up. However Josh Fraser replied 5 minutes later to level the game. A Gregor Cushnie strike on 15 minutes restored Lochcarron’s advantage in this end to end clash but Ali MacAdam leveled for a second time just 2 minutes later. The second half was only 2 minutes old when Lochcarron took the lead for the third time through Iain MacKenzie and the same player made it 4-2 on 57 minutes. Strath pressed hard during the last 20 minutes but they only had a Robert Geddes strike on 76 minutes to show for their efforts which made the final score 4-3 in Lochcarron’s favour. Skye Camanachd headed for the Highland Capital to play Inverness. The Islanders were keen to start a run of league victories having gone out of both the Balliemore and Camanachd Cup in recent weeks. Defenders John Moir, Allan MacLeod and Jamie MacDonald all missed out for Skye as did playmaker Somhairle MacDonald and his brother Aonghas MacDonald. However defender AB Connor returned to the side. Aberdour were 8-0 winners when the sides met at the end of April but this was a much closer affair as goals from Ross Nicol and Doug Newsom gave Aberdour a 2-1 win whilst Preston Shuttleworth replied for the home side. Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Aberdeen University welcomed Boleskine. The Students won 4-1 when the sides met at Farr earlier in the season and hat-tricks from former Skye Camanachd player Kenny MacLeod and Peter Gracie helped them to an 8-3 win in this one. Robert Wotherspoon put Boleskine ahead after 20 minutes but Kenny MacLeod squared the game 5 minutes later. The match remained level until 3 minutes from the break when a Peter Gracie strike gave the home side a 2-1 lead. Peter Gracie made it 3-1 on 55 minutes and he completed his hat-trick a couple of minutes later. Another former Skye player, Jamie Beaton, made it 5-1 on 64 minutes but Andrew Fraser pulled a goal back for the Strath on 73 minutes.
