The Shinty Preview – Saturday 17 July 2010. | |
14 July 2010 The Balliemore Cup Final takes place on Saturday 17 July 2010 and we will also know who wins the remaining two places in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi finals. The 2010 Balliemore Cup Final between Kinlochshiel and Lochaber takes places at An Aird. The final throws up at 4pm and will be shown live on BBC ALBA. The final will be previewed on www.skyecamanachd.com There are Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi final places up for grabs and holders Fort William travel to Mossfield to play Oban Camanachd. The match was to have taken place last weekend when it was switched to An Aird – a decision which didn’t please the Oban men - as Oban’s Mossfield pitch was unavailable as it was booked for a football tournament. As a result, Oban had hoped to move the game to the Ganavan but it turned out that the pitch is 4 yards too short. The tie then looked to have been switched to Kilmallie’s Canal Parks as pitch repair work was scheduled for An Aird ahead of this weekend’s Balliemore Cup Final. However the tie did not go ahead and was controversially rescheduled for this weekend. The Fort should have defender John MacLeod back whilst Scotland captain Gary Innes, who is playing at this weekend’s Hebridean Celtic Music Festival in Stornoway, will make a Saturday morning dash to try and get to Oban in time for the game. Kingussie head for Blairbeg to play Glenurquhart in the knowledge that they have won twice ther already this season - in the league and MacTavish Cup. The Kings had a free day last Saturday as they attended player Ally Borthwick’s wedding. This has given a 2 week break to those players not involved in the Marine Harvest Premier Sixes and manager Stevie Borthwick will hope this has helped ease his injury problems. Glenurquhart also had a free Saturday last weekend and they are having a tough run of fixtures at present having lost to Fort William and Newtonmore in their last two outings. South sides Inveraray and Kyles Athletic are already through to the semi finals. There will be an interesting Bullough Cup semi final tie between Glasgow Mid Argyll, who are in second place in Marine Harvest South Division 2, and Lochside Rovers, who are in fourth place in Marine Harvest South Division 1. Kyles Athletic await the winners in the final on Saturday 4 September 2010. Lovat and Kingussie meet at Balgate in the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup. Lovat are already in the final of the Strathdearn Cup and they have been a good cup side in recent seasons. However Kingussie have an experienced second string and they will prove tough opponents. The winners play Glenurquhart in the final on 31 July 2010. Scottish Hydro Premier Division leaders Newtonmore will look to put the disappointment of last weekend’s Camanachd Cup defeat to Kyles Athletic behind them when they play Glasgow Mid Argyll at the Eilan. ‘More won 5-0 at Yoker in April with Danny MacRae scoring twice. This match has a 2pm throw up Bute and Kyles Athletic meet in a derby match at the Meadows. Kyles were 2-1 winners earlier in the season thanks to a Thomas Whyte double. Roberto Zavaroni scored for Bute that day but he is suspended for this one. Inveraray and Lovat clash at the Winterton. Inveraray have a 100% home record in both the league and cups this season and their forward line is particularly potent. Lovat were 4-2 winners when the sides met at Balgate in March with Greg Matheson, James MacPherson and a Fraser Gallagher double on target. However Lovat are under-strength for this one as Fraser Gallagher serves the second of his 2 game ban, full back Martin Bell is on his honeymoon and Euan Ferguson also misses out following an operation on Friday 9 July 2010. However Calum Cruden is back from suspension. There is a Friday night clash in Marine Harvest North Division 1 when Lochcarron and Strathglass meet at Battery Park. Lochcarron have only lost twice in the league this season whilst Strathglass have only one league victory. This match throws up at 7.30pm and not earlier as is advertised elsewhere. Kilmallie and Beauly have a 1pm throw up at Canal Parks. Kilmallie were 8 players short last weekend although that didn’t seem to adversely affect them as they beat Inverness 8-0. They will have more players to choose from this week Skye Camanachd head for the Highland Capital to play Inverness. The Islanders will be keen to start a run of league victories having gone out of both the Balliemore and Camanachd Cup in recent weeks. Defenders John Moir, Allan MacLeod and Jamie MacDonald all miss out for Skye as does playmaker Somhairle MacDonald but AB Connor should return. There is one match in Marine Harvest South Division 1 as Ballachulish and Inveraray have a 1pm throw up at Jubilee Park. Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Glengarry head for the Eilan to play Newtonmore. This match throws up at 4pm. Second place Glenurquhart and Kilmallie have a noon throw up at Blairbeg. The Glen were 6-2 winners in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season. Skye Camanachd and Beauly meet in a relegation battle at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Skye were narrow 2-1 winners when the sides met at Braeview Park earlier in the season and this one will be equally close. The bottom 2 sides in Marine Harvest South Division 2 meet as Tayforth and Bute clash in Perth. Fifth place Col Glen host fourth place Aberdour. Col Glen have suffered a couple of heavy defeats recently and this will be their final league game of the season. Aberdour were 8-0 winners when the sides met at the end of April. Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Aberdeen University welcome Boleskine. The Students won 4-1 when the sides met at Farr earlier in the season. Fourth place Lochbroom play sixth place Inverness in Ullapool. Caberfeidh can go level on points with second place Lochaber if they beat Strathglass at Castle Leod. |
