25 June 2010 The second senior cup final of the season takes place on Saturday 26 June 2010 as Inveraray and Kyles Athletic meet in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final at Old Anniesland, Glasgow. Inveraray and Glasgow Mid Argyll meet in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final at Old Anniesland, Glasgow on Saturday 26 June 2010. Inveraray lead their opponents by 3 points in the league but Kyles have a game in hand. Brothers Grant and Donald Irvine will be major players for the Tighnabruaich side whilst Russell MacKinlay and Grant Griffin provide the main threat for Inveraray who are out to win the famous trophy for the fourth consecutive year. This match has a 4pm throw up. The first Bullough Cup semi- final takes place at Yoker where armed forces side The SCOTS aim to shoot down Kyles Athletic. It has been a good season so far for the Tighnabruaich side who have also made it into the last 4 of the Sutherland Cup and the top Marine Harvest North Division 2. This match has a 12.30pm throw up. The Scottish Hydro Premier Division fixtures don’t get any easier for Glenurquhart. Having lost 2-1 to leaders Newtonmore at the Eilan last weekend, they now travel to An Aird to play second place Fort William. A Bryan Simpson goal put The Fort on the way to a 3-1 victory when the sides met at Blairbeg in March. Leaders Newtonmore welcome second bottom Oban Camanachd to the Eilan. Newtonmore will have to win this one without international Paul MacArthur who is suspended if they want to be sure of retaining their place at the top of the table. The Oban side sit just one point above bottom side Glasgow Mid Argyll and it’s tight in the lower half of the league with only 5 points separating 5 sides. Newtonmore were 5-1 winners when the sides met at Mossfield in March with Danny MacRae, who is nearing a first team return after injury, getting a double. Kingussie have the chance to go third on goal difference when they host Bute at the Dell. Kingussie have played only three of their nine league fixtures so far at the Dell so this will be a welcome home match for them. Defenders Ally MacLeod and Greg MacRae miss out through injury and there will be checks on several players including Iain Borthwick and Paul Gow who picked up knocks in last weekend’s Co-operative MacTavish Cup win. Bute earned a creditable draw when the sides met in Rothesay in April and they will be still smarting following last week’s defeat to bottom side Glasgow Mid Argyll. This match has a 1pm throw up. The Marine Harvest North Division 1 local derby between Lochcarron and Skye Camanachd and Lochcarron at Battery Park has been brought forward to Friday 25 June 2010 with a 7.30pm throw up. The home side will be missing Ross Matheson because of work commitments whilst John Moir joins Skye’s growing injury list wick a torn muscle in his shoulder. The sides are both on 7 points in the table although the Islanders have 2 games in hand. Lochaber are back in action after a 2 week break and they play Caberfeidh at Spean Bridge. Lochaber have lost 2 of their 5 games and they will be anxious to win this one to maintain their title challenge. Caberfeidh are currently in third place and have become draw specialists after sharing the points in 5 of their 9 league fixtures. In fact after winning their first 2 games, the Castle Leod side have drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 7 games. There is another local derby at Braeview Park where second top Beauly have the chance to close the gap on leaders Kinlochshiel to a single point with a game in hand when they play bottom side Strathglass. Beauly were 4-2 winners when they played Strathglass at Cannich in May. There is another Friday night fixture in Marine Harvest North Division 2 and this one is also a local derby as Newtonmore and Kingussie meet at the Eilan. The sides played a thrilling midweek match at the start of the month with ‘More winning 5-4 at the Dell. This match has a 7pm throw up. League leaders Glengarry play second bottom Beauly at Invergarry. Glengarry have opened up a 3 point lead on second place Glenurquhart but their rivals have 2 games in hand. However Newtonmore, Fort William and Kingussie will also consider themselves to be in the title chase. Beauly had a superb win at An Aird against Fort William last weekend and they will be keen to build on this. This match was originally abandoned when a Beauly player took ill when the sides met earlier in the season. Glenurquhart and Fort William meet at Blairbeg. The League is Fort William’s only chance of winning honours this season having recently been knocked out of both the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup and Strathdearn Cup in recent weeks. A James Cameron double helped the Fort to a 3-0 win when they met at An Aird. The local derbies continue in Portree where bottom side Skye Camanachd play Kinlochshiel. Skye will run fitness checks over a number of players including Iain Grant, Daniel Morrison and Jordan Murchison. The visitors should have Colin MacDiarmid back from suspension and youngsters Zander Grant and David Falconer available as their first team is not in action. The sides drew 1-1 at Kirkton earlier in the season. With Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Aberdeen not in action, Lochaber have the chance to narrow the gap at the top when they play Lochbroom in Ullapool. The Spean Bridge men have a few absentees for this one though including Stuart Callison who has a broken thumb. Ardnamurchan host Boleskine. Boleskine were 3-2 winners when the sides met in April. Inverness head for Castle Leod to play Caberfeidh. The sides drew 1-1 at the Bught earlier in the season. Strathglass and Lochcarron meet at Cannich. Lochcarron won their Battery Park encounter 4-2. |
