Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final………….1 day To Go! | |
18 June 2010 Kilmallie and Kingussie are making their last minute preparations ahead of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final at the Bught Park on Saturday 19 June 2010. The match will be refereed by Oban’s Billy Wotherspoon. The former Oban Celtic player has built a reputation as a no-nonsense referee and he said, “I’m delighted to be given the chance to officiate at shinty’s highest level. Last year’s final was a great event with no real problems for the referee, so I am hoping for more of the same.” The goal judges are Drumnadrochit duo Robert Morrison and Billy MacLeod whilst Ron Kennedy of Newtonmore is the fourth official. The sides have already met once this season when they clashed at Canal Parks in the first round of the Macaulay Cup on the 8 May 2010. The Kings were on a high after the previous week’s extra time triumph over Newtonmore whilst Kilmallie had only suffered one defeat. Kilmallie were without the suspended Michael Rodger. Defender Ally MacLeod had been a long term absentee for Kingussie who were also without the injured Iain Borthwick and Rory Fraser. James Hutchison was also missing which stretched manager Stevie Borthwick’s resources. Andrew Borthwick played in goal for Kingussie although he was clearly hampered by a knee injury. Ronald Ross gave Kingussie the lead after 28 minutes and the visitors took this lead into the break. Young Thomas Borthwick made it 2-0 on 50 minutes whilst Ross added his second a minute from the end. Kilmallie had John Stewart sent off by referee Billy Wotherspoon after 75 minutes when he received a straight red card following a clash with young Kingussie defender Stuart Downey. The winning margin could have been greater but for some fine saves from Kilmallie keeper Kevin Toye who was deputising for Neil MacNiven who missed out due to work commitments |
