29 May 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 29 May 2010 are……….. MacTavish Cup Kilmallie pulled off the result of the day when they beat Fort William on their own pitch to reach the final of the MacTavish Cup. Most people expected both Premier League sides to win through to the final but Kilmallie did North Division 1 proud and a Liam MacDonald double helped them stack up a 4-1 lead just a minute into the second half. However goals from Drew Ferguson on 61 minutes and Duncan Rodger on 85 minutes ensured a nervy ending for the visitors but Kilmallie held on for a famous victory. They will face Kingussie in the final at the Bught Park on 19 June 2010. David Neilson shocked last season’s runners up when he put Beauly ahead in the opening minute. However Ronald Ross leveled in the first half and he added 3 more goals in the second period to clinch a 4-1 win. Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Holders Inveraray had to fight all the way to reach the final of the Celtic Society Cup with a 3-2 win over Oban Camanachd at Mossfield. The visitors led twice during the regulation 90 minutes but Oban fought back to take the tie into extra time. Grant Griffin got the all-important goal after 103 minutes – his second of the game – to take Inveraray into the final. They will face Kyles Athletic in the final who beat Bute 8-4 at the Meadows. The home side raced into a 3-0 lead but a Dunkie Kerr hat trick and a double from Roddie MacDonald contributed towards the visitor’s victory. Balliemore Cup A second half goal from Andrew MacDonald gave Lochaber a 1-0 victory over Lochcarron at Spean Bridge. Lochaber will now meet Kilmallie in the semi finals. Strathdearn Cup Lovat are through to the next round following a 3-0 win over Skye Camanachd. Rory Cruden, Jimmy MacKenzie and Jamie Matheson got their goals. Bullough Cup An extra time goal from Stewart Stirling sees Bute through to the second round with a 2-1 win at Taynuilt. Lochside Rovers were convincing 4-0 winners over Col Glen. Craig MacDougall scored their opener. Marine Harvest Premier Division Newtonmore returned to the top of the National Premier Division with a 4-0 win over Lovat at Balgate. A David Cheyne double, a Glen MacKintosh strike and an own goal proved too much for Lovat. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Kinlochshiel extended their lead at the top of North Division 1 with a 5-1 win over Skye Camanachd at Portree. Brothers Keith and Finlay MacRae were amongst the scorers. Inverness climbed off the bottom of the league following an exciting 4-3 win against Strathglass at Cannich. Player / manager Stevie Munro scored twice and goals from James Ross and Kevin McVey cancelled out a Robert Geddes hat-trick. Marine Harvest South Division 1 League leaders Glenorchy were convincing 6-0 winners at the Winterton against bottom club Inveraray. A Scott Henderson goal 5 minutes from time gave Ballachulish a 3-2 win over Kilmory at Jubilee Park. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Fort William remain top of the league after winning a point against Newtonmore at the Eilan despite a David Wilde goal for the home side. A first half strike from distance by Kinlochshiel’s full centre Colin MacDiarmid gave them a first half lead against Kingussie at the Dell. However Rory Borthwick leveled to win the home side a share of the points. Martin Graham scored 4 in Kilmallie’s 5-0 win over Beauly at Canal Parks. Sebastian MacMillan scored the other before being sent off on the hour mark. A Stuart Gregory goal and a Mathew Ross double gave Glengarry a 3-0 home win over second place Glenurquhart. Marine Harvest South Division 2 A Duncan MacNicol goal 7 minutes from time gave Strachur a 2-1 win against Glasgow Mid Argyll at Yoker. The match between leaders Kyles Athletic and Aberdour at Tighnabruaich was postponed. Marine Harvest South Division 3 Doubles from Connor Sweeney and Stuart Callison gave leaders Lochaber a 4-3 win over Inverness at Spean Bridge. Second place Aberdeen University were 5-1 home winners over Lochbroom. Former Skye Camanachd player Jamie Beaton and Willie Hunter both scored doubles and Donald Lamont scored their other. An Iain MacDonald double helped Caberfeidh to a 5-0 win over Boleskine at Castle Leod. Strathglass were trailing 1-0 to Ardnamurchan at Cannich with only 12 minutes to go. However a Raymond Fraser brace and efforts from Craig Stewart and Josh Fraser gave them a 4-1 win. |
