Glenurquhart U17 Win 2011 London Shield - UPDATED. | |
26 November 2011 Glenurquhart U17 won the 2011 London Shield with a 2-1 win over Kinlochshiel U17 2-1 at Balgate on Saturday 26 November 2011. Kinlochshiel U17 reached the semi finals of this national competition when they finished top of the North Section with Glenurquhart U17 in second place. Both teams won their semi final ties last weekend against South Section opposition with 'Shiel beating Fort William 4-1 and Glen edging out Oban Celtic on penalties. The pitch at Balgate passed a 9am pitch inspection and both teams served up a very entertaining final for the crowd who braved the winter elements. The Glen opened the scoring on 15 minutes and it was Connor Golabek who did the damage as he followed up his semi final goal with another strike. Aedan MacRae leveled on the half hour mark when he slipped the ball past the keeper after being played in by Conall Fraser and the sides went into the interval all square. Glenurquhart recognised the danger of 'Shiel's Conall Fraser, who scored four times in the semi finals, and Fraser Heath was given the task of marking him which he did well. It has been 10 years since Glenurquhart last won the London Shield and Daniel MacKintosh ended the wait as he scored what turned out to be a deserved winner on 57 minutes when he sent a great 20 yard shot into the roof of the net at the third attempt. Camanachd Association Youth Director Callum Duff presented the London Shield to Glenurquhart U17 captain Fraser Heath. |
