The Saturday Shinty Round Up – Saturday 19 November 2011 - | |
25 November 2011 Oban Camanachd put up a brave fight against Kilmallie but they were unable to get the seven goal victory required to preserve their top division status on Saturday 19 November 2011. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Oban Camanachd 4 Kilmallie 2 Oban Camanachd and Kilmallie meet at Mossfield with the home side knowing they needed to win by seven clear goals to avoid relegation to Marine Harvest South Division 1 at the expense of Inveraray. The Oban side survived the drop in their last game of the 2010 shinty season but this looked to be a much more difficult task. Kilmallie continued to be without the suspended Michael Rodger but Euan Stoddart returned to the side after a period working off-shore. An unplayable Mossfield would have resulted in a switch to either Taynuilt or Yoker. The Bught Park, Inverness was the second back-up choice but neither option was required. Iain MacMillan put the home side ahead on 18 minutes when he shot past |Kevin Toye in the Kilmallie goal. However the home side suffered a blow when Peter McIntyre made it 1-1 just 5 minutes before the break. Oban Camanachd regained the lead through Matt Rippon a couple of minutes into the second half but again Kilmallie came back and John Stewart made it 2-2 on 51 minutes. Aidan MacIntyre on the hour mark and Scott MacMillan 4 minutes later gave Oban hope but they were unable to add to their tally and their 4-2 win was not enough to avoid the drop. Oban Camanachd now join Glenorchy in Marine Harvest South Division 1 with the Oban side’s reserve team Lochside Rovers dropping into Marine Harvest South Division 2. |
