Skye Boss Aonghas MacDonald Happy To End Season On A High. | |
20 September 2011 Skye first team manager Aonghas MacDonald was happy to end the season on a high following his side’s 3-1 Marine Harvest North Division 1 win over Caberfeidh at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 10 September 2011. Speaking to the Cuillin FM Saturday Sports Show after the game, MacDonald said, “I would have definitely taken that result before the game started and we’re pleased to take the points. It was always going to be a bit of a battle but the pitch is in very good condition considering the weather we’ve had. I thought we completely dominated in the first half although we did have the wind. I was really pleased to see some good forward play which created chances and we scored some nice goals as well. The defence battled away all afternoon to so I’m delighted with that.” On opponents Caberfeidh, MacDonald said, “Caberfeidh keeper Donald Mellis played well and we put them under enough pressure where he had to make a few saves and they have a couple of cracking players in their side. I know they were a couple of players short today and we’ll look forward to playing them next season when both sides are at full strength.” On his fringe players, the Skye boss commented, “Our younger players certainly didn’t look out of place. Ally MacDonald, Ally MacLeod and Jordan Murchison did as well if not better that some of our more established players and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of them next season and in the years to come.” Looking to the future, MacDonald added, “There’s a lot we can improve on for next season. This has been a very difficult season just because of player unavailability more than anything. We’ve had some of our strongest players missing for most of the season but that has given other players the chance to come in. Neil MacVicar has come in and he’s been one of our strongest players throughout the season. I’ve been really pleased to see the likes of him, Jordan Murchison and Ally MacDonald coming through. However for the season ahead, we need to improve our fitness so we need to concentrate on that in the close season and hit the ground running when next season begins.” |
