11 September 2011 The countdown begins to the biggest date in the shinty calendar as Newtonmore and Kingussie meet in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 17 September 2011. The clash between the Badenoch giants have not met in the final since 1997 and throw up is at 2.30pm. Former Camanachd Cup winner Deek Cameron is the match referee. He will be assisted by goal judges Gus Campbell and Jock Matheson. The final will be preceded by both the Ken MacMaster Cup Final and the Scottish Hydro Development Cup Final. The Ken MacMaster Cup Final is between Fort William U14 and Skye Camanachd U14 and this match takes place on the main Bught Park pitch with an 11.45am throw up. Jock Matheson is the referee and he will be assisted by goal judges Evan MacRae and Gus Campbell. The Scottish Hydro Development Cup Final between Milngavie & Bearsden U14 and Lochcarron U14 also throws up at 11.45am and it takes place on the Outside Field at the Bught Park. This game will be refereed by Graeme MacMillan whilst Iain Kennedy and Kevin Cheeseman are the goal judges. There will be other features throughout the day. These include the BBC Big Screen which makes a welcome return. The Shinty Skills School will provide an opportunity for those new to have game to come and have a go. The Shinty Shop will be selling all the usual merchandise including the official Scotland replica kit for the 2011 internationals plus exclusive shinty leisure wear. Caberfeidh Shinty Club will have a stall selling their new book celebrating 125 years in the game. The Blas tent opens at 1pm and features performances from the stars of the Feisean Ceilidh Trials. There will also be bouncy castle and face painting stations. The Black Isle Brewery provide the bar and food will be served at a range of catering outlets including Highland Hog Roast, and the awarded winning MacDougall Hastie Butchers. These outlets open at 12 noon. Gates open at 11.30am and admission is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and U12s will be admitted free of charge if accompanied by an adult. If you are unable to be at the game, the 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final will be shown live on BBC2 Scotland and will be broadcast live on both Radio Scotland and Radio nan Gaidheal. Television coverage starts at 2.15pm and Hugh Dan MacLennan is the match commentator. Radio coverage starts 15 minutes earlier. |
