Kinlochshiel Captain Keith MacRae Praises Team’s Consistency. | |
24 August 2011 Kinlochshiel captain Keith MacRae praised his team’s consistency as they clinched the Marine Harvest North Division 1 title with a 5-1 win over Skye Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 20 August 2011. Speaking to the Cuillin FM Saturday Sports Show after the game, MacRae said, “Over the last few years we have been inconsistent but this year we have stepped it up and we have been playing good shinty in every game in the league.” MacRae feels his side can compete at the top level in the game. “I think we have proved already against teams like Newtonmore that we can compete at a higher standard. It’s just about consistency for us and doing it in the Premier Division. We’ve seen sides like Glenurquhart go up and do well. Lovat and Kilmallie too and we’d like to be the same as them. We need to get experience and points to stay in the top league in our first season and maybe then we can step up again and compete at the very top one day.” When asked about his team’s strength, MacRae was both full of praise and diplomatic about his team-mates contributions throughout the season. He said, “We are strong throughout the team really. Our keeper and defence have only let in seven goals in twelve league games this season and that speaks for itself. Our midfield has also been solid and we’ve not done too bad up front, scoring quite a few goals which always helps. It’s hard to single anyone out. It would be great to end the season with a 100% record but we know we have two very tough games left away to Beauly and away to Lochaber.” On a personal note, Keith MacRae’s performances this season have attracted praise from Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil and the former Scotland U21 international is very keen to break into the full squad. “I attend all the international sessions every year and I’ll be doing my best this year again so we’ll just have to see what happens.” |
