Clubs Set For 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Semi Finals. | |
09 August 2011 Inveraray, Newtonmore, Kingussie and Kilmallie are all set to do battle for a place in the 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final ahead of the semi finals at Spean Bridge on Saturday 13 August 2011. Newtonmore put out holders Fort Willimam in the second round of this year’s competition and their manager Norman MacArthur is looking forward to the meeting with Inveraray. He said, “We are delighted to participate in this year’s semi final and having not made it to the final for a good few years, we are determined to make our mark this year. However Inveraray will be equally up for it so I expect a hard, competitive match.” It has been a difficult league campaign for Inveraray this season but they beat the much fancied Kyles Athletic in the quarter finals of this competition. John MacKenzie reflected the mood in the camp when he said, “The whole squad are up for it and are really looking forward to the match. It is a one off game where anything can happen, and we are in no doubt that it will be a fast flowing and hard fought encounter.” Kingussie are captained by Ronald Ross in what is rumoured to be his last season as a player. A silver mounted caman would be a fitting end to a glittering shinty career but Ross is thinking about nothing else other than opponents Kilmallie. He said, “Kingussie are delighted to be in the semi finals and are looking forward to the game. Kilmallie are always tough opponents and we expect nothing less from them this Saturday.” Kilmallie are searching for their first Camanachd Cup success in almost 40 years. Midfielder Mark MacPherson knows his side have done well in shinty’s top flight this season and they ran Kingussie very close in the 2010 Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final. MacPherson said, “Since being back in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division this season, we have had played well and have held our own. Reaching the semi final is major achievement and we are all focused on getting passed Kingussie and through to the Final.” Scottish Hydro Sponsorship Manager Jonny Petrie said, “It’s sure to be another memorable day for the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup. The semi final ties promise to be exciting encounters and one thing we can be sure of is there will be a new name on the trophy for 2011. I wish all the teams the very best of luck in their bid to reach the final.” The first match at Spean Bridge is scheduled to be the meeting between Inveraray and Newtonmore which has a 12.45pm throw up. Next up is the clash between Kingussie and Kilmallie which throws up at 3.30pm. The 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final will take place at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 17 September 2011. |
