04 August 2011 Kingussie won the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup and Bute maintained their 100% record in Marine Harvest South Division 1 in the shinty matches played on Saturday 30 July 2011. Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup - Final Kyles Athletic 1 Kingussie 6 Kingussie won the 2011 Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup with a 6-1 victory over Kyles Athletic at the Kings College Playing Field, Aberdeen. A Martin Dallas goal after just 5 minutes got the Kings off to a great start and the same player doubled their advantage on 19 minutes. Kyles pulled a goal back through Ally MacKay on 36 minutes but Kingussie took a 3-1 lead into the break when referee Innes Wood awarded them a penalty on 41 minutes. Kevin Thain stepped up to convert from the spot. Martin Dallas completed his hat-trick just 3 minutes into the second half and that goal ended the game as a contest. Dallas got his fourth on 75 minutes to make it 5-1. Substitute Peter Dickson rounded off a 6-1 win with a strike 3 minutes from time. The Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup was presented to Kingussie captain Ruairidh Wink by First Minister Alex Salmond. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Lovat 0 Newtonmore 3 Newtonmore remain very much in the title race after their 3-0 win over Lovat at Balgate. John MacKenzie remained in goal for the visitors in place of the suspended Michael Ritchie. Newtonmore’s other option was to play second keeper Sean MacQuarrie but he is getting close to five appearances for the first team which would rule him out of the reserve team’s Strathdearn Cup semi final. After a goalless first half, Ackie MacRae got their opener for ‘More a minute into the second period. Glen MacKintosh made it 2-0 on the hour mark and a Danny MacRae effort was deflected past keeper Stuart MacDonald by a Lovat defender 10 minutes from time. Newtonmore are now a point behind second place Kyles Athletic although the Tighnabruaich men have a game in hand. Kilmallie 5 Glenurquhart 1 Kilmallie go fourth with a superb 5-1 win over Glenurquhart at the Canal Parks. The home side went into the game without defender Euan Stoddart who was working. Fraser Massie and longer term absentee Martin Graham were also missing. Kilmallie’s problems going into the game were compounded when an injury picked up against Fort William last week ruled out influential full centre Ross Lavin. Glenurquhart also had players missing as they battle with Kilmallie and Kingussie for fourth spot in the league. John Stewart put Kilmallie ahead on 6 minutes whilst Liam MacDonald got their second on 34 minutes. Michael Rodger netted a couple of minutes later to give the home side a 3-0 lead at the break. A late double from Rodger completed his hat-trick. He scored his second on 81 minutes and his third came from the penalty spot after referee Billy Wotherspoon awarded the home side a spot-hit a couple of minutes from time. Lewis MacLennan scored a consolation goal for Glenurquhart. The Kilmallie management must be delighted with how their weakened side performed. Stephen McAllister was excellent after coming on in place of injured full back Alan MacDonald in the first half and Robbie McFadyen also came on to do a great job in defence. . Inveraray 2 Oban Camanachd 1 Inveraray collected two valuable points with a 2-1 victory over Oban Camanachd in their 3pm throw up at the Winterton. The home side were strengthened from the depleted squad which lost to Glenurquhart the previous weekend. Scott Robertson and Ruairidh Graham were amongst those who returned to the side. Matt Rippon put Oban Camanachd ahead after just 8 minutes but Grant Griffin levelled on 20 minutes. Inveraray’s Stuart Robertson got the winner on the hour mark. Oban Camanachd had chances to take something from the game but it was Inveraray who took the points. Now only goal difference separates Oban Camanachd, Inveraray and Lovat in the second relegation spot although the Mossfield side have played 3 games less than Lovat and Inveraray one game fewer than the Balgate men. However a 32 minute goal from Lochcarron’s Crisdean Finlayson, after Beauly keeper Martin Davidson had saved an Iain MacKenzie effort ensured the sides went into the break on level terms. There was no scoring in the second half so the teams shared the points. A plus for Lochcarron was the second half appearance of Angie MacKay in their attack following a long absence. Caberfeidh 5 Strathglass 3 Caberfeidh got over the disappointment of last weekend’s Balliemore Cup Final defeat to Bute when they beat a stuffy Strathglass side 5-3 at Castle Leod. The visitors had gone 2-0 ahead through Robert Geddes on 6 minutes and Robbie Stokes on 17 minutes.
