Local Referee Daniel MacRae Reflects On An Afternoon’s Work. | |
30 June 2011 Local referee Daniel MacRae took charge of Newtonmore’s 4-3 Strathdearn Cup quarter final victory over Skye Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 25 June 2011. Speaking to Cuillin FM’s Saturday Sports Show after the game MacKintosh said, “It was a very good game. I haven’t refereed either of these teams in about a year and it was a very close game. There were claims for a penalty but I didn’t see it and you can’t give a decision if you don’t see it. It was a hard game but not dirty. There were a couple of flashpoints but just handbags really.” When asked about his own progress as a referee, MacRae said, “This is my fourth season as a Camanachd Association referee and I’m moving up to Division 1 matches but this game today might have been at Division 2 level but it was harder than any game I’ve done this season. The Division 1 games are much quicker but there are also a lot less fouls.” “There are three referee grades and I’m up to a grade 2 referee now. The grade 1 referees are the ones refereeing major cup finals and Premier Division games and that’s where I would like to progress to and a Camanachd Cup Final within 10 years would be nice.” Daniel MacRae returns to Portree next weekend as he is the man in the middle for the Marine Harvest North Division 1 local derby between Skye Camanachd and Lochcarron.” |
