Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final Oban Camanachd 1 Kyles Athletic 2 A good crowd turned out for what was the only match in the South, with the exception of the Balliemore Cup semi final, as Kyles Athletic beat Oban Camanachd 2-1 at the Winterton to win the 107th Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final. This was only the second time that the final had been staged outside Glasgow and the change of venue and the fact that there was next to no other shinty in the South contributed to the large crowd. Roddy MacDonald put the Tighnabruaich men ahead after 27 minutes when he fired past Oban keeper Gavin Stobbart and that goal separated the sides until 8 minutes from time when Fraser MacDonald made it 2-0. The late drama continued as Kyles’ Donald Irvine was controversially sent off by referee Billy Wotherspoon a couple of minutes from time. Oban Camanachd fought back with a Scott MacMillan goal sixty seconds later but Kyles held on against a spirited Oban side to win the famous trophy. Kyles had several good performers including young defender Sandy MacVicar and keeper Kenny MacDonald who made some good late stops inluding one breathtaking save from a Scott MacMilan rocket mid-way through the second half. This was Kyles first success in this competition since 2000. That was a year when current keeper Kenny MacDonald was named Marine Harvest Player of the Year, their coach Colin MacColl was Manager of the Year and they were named Club of the Year. This season is shaping up to be quite successful too. MacQuiston Cup Final Oban Camanachd U17 1 Oban Celtic U17 0 It took extra time to separate Oban Camanachd U17 and Oban Celtic U17 in the MacQuiston Cup Final before Camanachd ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a George MacMillan goal. Bute trailed Lochaber 3-1 with only 3 minutes of extra time remaining in this one but they fought back to level the contest before eventually winning through following a dramatic penalty shoot-out. Lochaber took the lead through Scott Paterson a couple of minutes before the break. However Robert Walker levelled on 63 minutes and with no further scoring, referee Robert Baxter took the tie into an extra-time period.
