North End Perform Well At 2011 Shinty World Cup | |
17 June 2011 North End came within a whisker of qualifying for the 2011 Shinty World Cup Final following the primary school age sixes tournament at Drumnadrochit on Monday 13 June 2011. The teams were split into two sections with the winners of each section qualifying to contest the World Cup Final at a later date. First up for North End was a match against Glenurquhart B and the Skye boys won 2-0. They then went on to beat Kinlochleven 5-0 and followed this up with a scoreless draw against Newtonmore which was to later prove significant. A 6-0 win against Gaelic Green was next as did a 2-1 win over Kinlochbervie. In their final of seven section games, North End beat Invergarry 2-0.This meant that North End won six of their seven games and drew the other, scoring 17 goals and conceding only one goal. North End then faced a play-off against Newtonmore to decide the section winners. However it was to be heart-break for the Skye youngsters as they lost 1-0 in against Newtonmore despite putting in a good performance. Banavie and Glenurquhart A played off to see who would come out on top in the other section with Banavie running out 2-0 winners. Details of the 2011 World Cup Final between Banavie and Newtonmore will be announced at a later date. |
