10 June 2011 The winners of the annual Portree High School Shinty Awards were announced at the end of term. The Jake MacDonald Caman For Senior Players The senior boys Jake MacDonald Caman is for the player from 4th / 5th / 6th year who has done most for shinty in the school and it was awarded to Jordan Murchison. Whilst the school team has not really participated in tournaments this year, Murchison has gone on to represent Skye Camanachd with distinction at U17 level and he has also been selected for the Scotland U17 squad which will tour Ireland this summer. He is also a regular in the Skye Camanachd U17 side and has played for the first team on several occasions. Previous winners of the Jake MacDonald Caman include; 2010 - Iain Grant 2009 - Iain Morrison & Stewart Grant (joint winners) 2008 - Shockie MacLennan Ally MacLennan and Steven Morrison are also previous winners. The Ewen MacLean Trophy For Junior Players Stevie MacKinnon collected the Ewen MacLean Trophy which is awarded to the junior player (1st / 2nd / 3rd year) who has done most for shinty in the school. MacKinnon was part of the successful Skye Camanachd U14 side which were North Division champions last year. He is also an important part of the Skye Camanachd U17 side which has reached the 2011 MacTavish Juvenile Cup Final and he has also made his Skye Camanachd second team debut during the last 12 months. Previous winners of the Ewen MacLean Trophy include; 2010 - Shaun Hedley 2009 - Jordan Murchison 2008 - Martin Bruce 2007 - Neil MacVicar We would like to increase the list of previous winners of the Jake MacDonald Caman and the Ewen MacLean Trophy on the website so please let at info@skyecamanachd.com if you know the name and year of any previous winners. There were also two new girls’ awards in recognition of Portree High School’s participation in the Schools’ League. Senior Girls The senior award went to Lorna MacRae who has been in fine form through-out the league season and who was also selected for the North U18 side this year. Junior Girls Rosalind Lamond became the first winner of the junior player award and this is an accolade she deserves for all the effort she has put into both her own game and the school and Skye teams over the last couple of years. |
