Inverness 2 Skye Camanachd 2. | |
26 May 2011 Skye Camanachd drew 2-2 with Inverness in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at the Bught Park on Saturday 21 May 2011. Skye Camanachd manager Aonghas saw work commitments rule out Gilleasbuig MacDonald and AB Connor whilst Shaun Hedley was missing with a knee injury. Forwards Jordan Murchison and Paul MacKinnon returned to second team duty. Steven Morrison returned to the side at full back whist Robbie MacDougall was also back following a groin injury and he started at full forward. Iain Morrison rejoined the senior squad and Keith MacKenzie joined Iain MacLennan on the bench in what was the latter’s first appearance in the top side. Inverness played with the wind at their backs in the first half but Skye captain Somhairle MacDonald got the Islanders off to a great start when he scored in the first minute after being set up by full forward Robbie MacDougall. Skye passed up opportunities to increase their lead. Somhairle MacDonald and Iain Morrison went closest with shots into the side net. Inverness had former Fort William player James Cameron in attack and he levelled the game on 38 minutes when he turned his marker and fired in a wicked shot which bounced in front of keeper Michael Nicolson before flying into the net. Somhairle MacDonald had the opportunity to put Skye in front again when referee Donald MacRae awarded the Islanders a penalty after Inverness full back Daniel Palumbo impeded Robbie MacDougall in the D. However MacDonald didn’t connect with the ball as he would have wished and his effort was saved by keeper Arran MacMaster. However Skye restored their one goal advantage thanks to an Alan Palmer goal a minute before the break which evaded the unsighted MacMaster. Skye failed to take the chances that would seal victory with Somhairle MacDonald, Robbie MacDougall and debutant Iain MacLellan all going close. They were made to pay when James Cameron scored his second goal of the game from the penalty spot on 83 minutes following an infringement by a Skye defender in the D.
