Camanachd Leòdhais Set For Historic Day. | |
11 May 2011 The first ever game of league shinty to be played in the Western Isles takes place at Sgoil Shiaboist on Saturday 14 May 2011. This historic fixture between Camanachd Leòdhais and Lochbroom is expected to draw a very large crowd to shinty’s newest ground at Shawbost as na Leòdhasaich face up to the team which acted as their landlords on the mainland for the last four seasons. The home side have a couple of injury concerns ahead of this Marine Harvest North Division 3 clash. Portree High School teacher Eoghan Stewart should shrug off a rib injury in time to take up his place at wing back. However manager Paul Duke will be sweating over his own availability for the game after celebrating the birth of his son Seumas in Glasgow last week! Former club president Conor MacDonald, who will take up his position in goals on Saturday, said “We send our best wishes to Paul and Marie. Hopefully we can put in a good performance and Dukey will be back in time. It has been a long road to this point but we’ve made it together and it is a real watershed in the sporting and social history of Lewis and Harris.” The match will be refereed by John MacLeod from Skye and throw-up is at 3pm. MacTV will be present to film the match with commentary provided by none other than shinty broadcasting veteran Hugh Dan MacLennan. The occasion will then be marked in some style with a reception hosted by Lewis Camanachd’s main sponsor, Harris Tweed Hebrides. |
