Kinlochshiel manager Johnston Gill was delighted with his side’s 1-0 win over Scottish Hydro Premier Division side Lovat in the first round of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup at Balgate on Saturday 2011.
Kinlochshiel first team manager Johnston Gill spoke to the Cuillin FM Saturday Sports Show after the game.
Gill knew his side had been in a hard game following their 1-0 win over Lovat at Balgate. “We were two evenly matched teams and we are delighted with the win,” he said. “We had to work hard for the win but we got there in the end. Our goal came when Finlay (MacRae) ran through their defence and knocked the ball past the keeper.”
“The pitch at Balgate was in good condition although the heavens opened just after the end of the game.”
Gill had team selection difficulties to contend with. “We lost Fraser MacVicar to a hamstring problem early in the game and young Duncan “Ach” MacRae came on in his place and performed well. We also lost 3 players before the game due to work commitments and the rolling subs make it a 15 man game anyway. Hopefully we got Fraser off in time and he will be ok for next weekend.”
“I would have preferred that the winning goal came 10 minutes from the end rather than 10 minutes from the start but both goalkeepers had outstanding saves throughout the game and I think we deserved it.”
Gill was pleased to have beaten Premier Division opposition but said, “There is not much between the teams in the top half of North Division 1 and those in the lower half of the Premier League.”
Looking forward to next week, he said, “We are looking forward to the game against Inverness next weekend and our confidence is quite high at the moment.”
