Double University Success For The South. | |
21 March 2011 The South came out on top in both the Men’s and Women’s University representative matches at Yoker on Wednesday 9 March 2011. These matches are usually held ahead of the Shinty / Hurling internationals between Scotland and Ireland as both are squad selection events but the university clashes fell foul of the weather. The North squads were made up of players from Aberdeen, Robert Gordons, Dundee and St Andrews. The South squads came from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Strathclyde. The South Men won 5-1. Their goals all came from Strathclyde players. Gary Luke and Elliot Moir were on target whilst Skye Camanachd’s Alan Palmer grabbed a hat-trick. Lochcarron’s Finlay Stark scored for the North. Stark actually plays for Edinburgh but he was drafted in by an under-strength North squad who were captained by Donald Irvine from Dundee and Kyles Athletic. The South Women won 2-0 thanks to goals from Edinburgh duo Anna Saddler and Elaine Tully. The respective trophies were presented to the winning captains at a function in Bar HOME in the Merchant City later that evening. The South Men’s captain was Ewen Murray from Strathclyde and Caberfeidh. The South Women were captained by Laura McCafferty from Strathclyde and Glasgow Mid Argyll. |
