18 February 2011 The pre-season friendlies continue on Saturday 19 February 2011 as clubs prepare for the new shinty season. The Lovat and Skye Camanachd first teams meet at Balgate with the 2011 Thomas Ferguson Challenge Cup at stake. Kingussie won the 2010 “Thomas” last weekend although it took a penalty shoot-out to separate the sides. The event had been carried forward from last pre-season because of the poor weather. Lovat may have former Skye Camanachd player Iain Nicolson in their side whilst Steven Morrison returns for Skye Camanachd. Throw up is also at 1.30pm. Just down the road at Braeview Park, Beauly welcome Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup winners Fort William. Inverness have a double header against Oban opposition at the Bught Park, Inverness. The Inverness reserve side play Lochside Rovers with a 12.30pm throw up whilst their first team face Oban Camanachd at 2pm. This will be the second successive weekend that Steve Munro’s side has face Oban opposition as they beat Oban Celtic 4-3 last weekend to lift the Robert Wylie Memorial Cup.. There is an all-south meeting in Taynuilt where the hosts welcome the Kyles Athletic first team. Kingussie are back in action and they play Caberfeidh at the Dell. Scottish Hydro Premier Division champions Newtonmore make their first appearance of the season and they play Lochaber at Spean Bridge with Fraser MacKintosh returning to their already powerful squad – with up to 40 players at training each week -- after missing last season following a period working abroad. Glenurquhart and Lochcarron were to have met at Blairbeg but the match has been postponed because of a bereavement in Lochcarron. Glengarry will look to follow up last week’s goalless draw with Oban Camanachd when they play Inveraray. The Glenurquhart second team makes the short journey to Farr to play Boleskine. The Fort William second team heads for Mossfield for a 1.30pm throw up against Oban Celtic. Meanwhile Ardnamurchan head for Canal Parks to play Kilmallie. Throw up for this one is at 2pm. Development side Strathspey heads for Jubilee Park to play the Ballachulish second string. |
