09 February 2011 Ruairidh Morrison & Will Cowie were named joint Skye Camanachd U14 A Players of the Year for the 2010 shinty season at the club’s Annual Dinner Dance at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Saturday 5 February 2011. The outcome of the 2010 Skye Camanachd U14 A Player of the Year was decided by a ballot amongst the players with Ruairidh Morrison & Will Cowie pipping Mark Mortimer to the award. Ruairidh Morrison has shown himself to be a speedy defender who is more than a match for any player in his age group. He captained the team to the North Division 1 title this season and he has also already made the step up to the U17 side. Morrison was also selected for the North U14 side which beat the South U14s at the Dell, Kingussie to win the 2010 Fraser MacPhee Trophy. Will Cowie is another player who has progressed through the Portree Primary School ranks. He won his first MacKay cup medal in 2005 when he was still on Primary 3. He has since added 2 more MacKay Cup successes, and was man of the match when the team lifted the trophy in 2008. He has gone on to enjoy U14 successes including the 2010 North Division 1 title win and he was the team’s top goal scorer last season. Cowie was also selected in the North U14 side which beat the South U14s to win the 2010 Fraser MacPhee Trophy and he scored in the game. Cowie follows a family line superb shinty players as his grandfather and father were both amongst the game’s top players whilst his uncle Ross Cowie is the current Club Chairman and assistant manager who managed the team to Camanachd Cup success in 1990. |
