Kinlochshiel Junior Shinty Club Celebrate Funding Boost! | |
18 December 2010 Kinlochshiel Junior Shinty Club are celebrating after winning £3,000 from the RBS Community Fund Award. Kinlochshiel Junior Shinty Club competed with Lucky2BHere and Crossroads (Lewis) for a share in the fund. Kinlochshiel Junior Shinty Club polled most votes so they will get £3,000 with the two runners up, Lucky2BHere and Crossroads (Lewis), collecting £1,000 each. The RBS Community Fund provides support to hundreds of charities and projects so that they can continue to make a big difference in local communities across Scotland and the rest of Britain. Kinlochshiel Junior Shinty Club promotes youth shinty in the parishes of Kintail, Lochalsh, Glenshiel and Glenelg and currently organise regular training, matches and tournaments in age groups ranging from Primary 1 to U14. The said in their application that shinty is a very big part of community life and provides the opportunity for youths to learn to play shinty together in teams for fun and to win. This provides a pathway the Shiel youngsters to progress from primary level through to senior. It also develops long lasting friendships local and afar. Kinlochshiel Junior Shinty Club currently does not have an U17 team providing the link from U14 to senior level. The club’s recent successes at all levels have increased participation and they now feel in a position to develop an U17 team. The grant award will help provide training, transport to away games, and purchase equipment. |
