Familiar Trip For Holders In 2011 Artemis Macaulay Cup Draw. | |
05 December 2010 Holders Kingussie will make a familiar journey to Drumnadrochit following the draw for the 2011 Artemis Macaulay Cup which was made live on Oban FM on Saturday 4 December 2010. Macaulay Association members Donald Skinner and Alan Hill joined secretary David Hamilton in the studio to make the draw during the station’s Sports Round Up programme. Alan Hill drew the home teams whilst Donald Skinner pulled out the away sides. Holders Kingussie travel to Drumnadrochit to play Glenurquhart. There was a sense of inevitability about this draw as the sides met at the same venue last season in both the MacTavish Cup and Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup with the Kings winning on both occasions. Lochaber and Kilmallie had a fantastic battle for the Marine Harvest North Division 1 title last season and an impressive win at Spean Bridge swung things in Kilmallie’s favour. Lochaber have their chance for revenge in this Spean Bridge meeting. The tie which really catches the eye is Scottish Hydro Premier Division champions Newtonmore’s trip to Kirkton to play Kinlochshiel. The west coast side are a formidable outfit on their own patch and they ran Fort William very close in the cup over the last two seasons. The winners are away to whoever comes through the Lochaber / Kilmallie tie. Fort William travel to Balgate to play Lovat. The sides met in the quarter finals last season with Fort William running out 6-0 winners against an under-strength Lovat side. The winners will travel to face the victors from the Glenurquhart / Kingussie tie. The South part of the draw gave 2010 finalists Inveraray a home tie against Bute. Inveraray have been almost unbeatable at the Winterton but they will have to try and win this one without keeper Graeme MacPherson who has moved abroad. Recently relegated Glasgow Mid Argyll host Marine Harvest South Division 1 runners up Oban Celtic. Oban Camanachd will be looking for improvement in 2011 after spending most of 2010 fighting a relegation battle. They should be too strong for Kilmory with the added incentive of home advantage against Mid Argyll or a potential Oban derby against Celtic. Glenorchy stormed through 2010, winning Marine Harvest South Division 1 without dropping a point. They face a tough test when Kyles Athletic come to visit. The Tighnabruaich men were 3-0 winners when the sides met in the quarter-finals of the 2010 Glasgow Celtic Society Cup. The winners will be at home to Inveraray or Bute. 2011 Artemis Macaulay Cup Draw; First Round Lochaber v Kilmallie Kinlochshiel v Newtonmore Glenurquhart v Kingussie Lovat v Fort William Inveraray v Bute Glasgow Mid Argyll v Oban Celtic Kilmory v Oban Camanachd Glenorchy v Kyles Athletic Second Round Glenurquhart / Kingussie v Lovat / Fort William Lochaber / Kilmallie v Kinlochshiel / Newtonmore Glenorchy / Kyles Athletic v Inveraray / Bute Kilmory / Oban Camanachd v Glasgow Mid Argyll / Oban Celtic The final will be played at Oban Camanachd’s Mossfield and will likely be live on television.
