Just 3 Days To Go In Camanachd Association Presidential Election. | |
30 November 2010 Shinty Clubs and Associations have just 3 more days to vote for the new Camanachd Association President as all ballot papers must be with the Returning Officer, Brian Colgan, Callander Colgan Accountants no later than 5pm on Friday 3 December 2010. The election is between Archie Robertson, who is a current Board Member of the Camanachd Association and Director without portfolio and Donald Stewart who is also a current Board Member as both Vice President and Director of Communications. Archie Robertson has had unbroken involvement in shinty since his days in primary school and he played for Lovat but is best known for his time at Glasgow Mid Argyll where he served with distinction as player and manager. He is currently a member of the Glasgow Mid Argyll committee and where he previously served as President and Treasurer. He is also currently a Director and Treasurer of the Glasgow Celtic Society. Robertson is intent on offering the leadership necessary to ensure the existing stability on the Board and within the staff is maintained. His aims include improved engagement with member clubs and he would encourage individuals from these clubs to become involved in developing the sport of shinty, including increasing its attractiveness to all. He would like to continue to develop relationships with sponsors and funders and would prepare a Facilities Strategy so that the Camanachd Association and funding partners can prioritise future investment. Robertson also sees it as crucial that shinty sets the highest standards of discipline especially with the increased media coverage enjoyed by the sport. Donald Stewart is a lifetime member of London Camanachd and in his time as Camanachd Association Vice-President and Director of Communications, he has raised funding of around £500,000 for the sport. He has also negotiated contracts with various media outlets and sponsors and has established a good working relationship with the GAA. Stewart aims to lend his experience to growing the sport of shinty and he would use his previous experience working with the GAA to ensure shinty learns from their success. He would also promote the health benefits from playing the sport. Stewart would lend his support to Clubs and Associations who he describes as providing leadership within their local communities. Stewart is well aware that public sector funding, which currently contributes a third of the requirements to run shinty, will likely decrease in the current economic climate and he intends to use his experience to help find replacement private sector funding to allow the sport to flourish. Stewart would work with Clubs and Associations to achieve good and frequent engagement as well as providing leadership for the Board and staff. Current President Duncan Cameron finishes his term in office at the Camanachd Association AGM on Friday 2011. However the President-elect will take up their new duties during the months leading up to the AGM. This will allow them to familiarise themselves with the role ahead of taking up the President’s position. |
