Camanachd Association Thanks Clubs For Fixtures Co-operation. | |
30 November 2010 The Camanachd Association has written club secretaries to thank them for their co-operation in ensuring that the 2011 season was complete by mid October, which is 2 months earlier than in 2009. Camanachd Association Operations Manager Astie Cameron said, “We have been very fortunate to have the season completed by mid October. This has been achieved due to the favourable weather we had in the spring when relatively few games were cancelled and by permitting only one free Saturday for each team. Also, by pulling fixtures forward to ensure that teams which were not involved in cup matches played a league fixture instead helped to avoid a backlog later in the season.” The 2099 shinty season ended in controversy with fixtures transferred as Kingussie and Newtonmore fought it out for the title. Cameron was pleased to avoid a repeat saying, “The scenario we faced with the 2009 season of transferring fixtures just to get the games played or teams sharing points to get the leagues completed is not one which we would like to happen again.” The Camanachd Association has yet to decide whether their policy of playing most Strathdearn Cup and Bullough Cup ties midweek will continue in 2011. The Fixtures Working Group has consulted clubs on the matter and is in the process of producing a report. However there is every chance that a form of midweek fixtures will continue in 2011 as Astie Cameron highlights this as another reason for the early completion of the 2010 season “The early rounds of both the Strathdearn Cup and Bullough Cup competitions were played in midweek,” he said, “thus reducing the number of Saturdays required to complete the fixture programme.” |
