London Shield Final...........2 Days To Go. | |
11 November 2010 Skye Camanachd U17 and Lochaber U17 meet in the London Shield Final at Braeview Park, Beauly on Saturday 13 November 2010. The same two sides met at the 2009 London Shield semi final stage at Drumnadrochit on Saturday 31 October 2009. The sides had met earlier in the season in Portree in the MacTavish Juvenile Cup first round with eventual competition winners Lochaber edging out a 3-2 victory. Skye went into this meeting at full strength with Lochaber missing the injured forward Stuart Callison. Lochaber put the Skye defence under some early pressure but they found the Islanders keeper Scott MacLeod in inspired form. It was to prove to be quite an afternoon for the Skye youngster. Lochaber took the lead midway through the half when Ben Delaney found space and fired the ball into the top corner of the net. However just before the break, Danny Morrison reacted best in a goalmouth scramble and levelled the tie. Both sides had chances in the second half but keepers Scott MacLeod and Cammy Kennedy were at the top of their game. Kennedy made good saves from Neil MacVicar and Ally MacLeod whilst MacLeod stopped everything that the Lochaber forward line threw at him. Skye suffered a blow when they lost defender Neil John Campbell through injury midway through the half. Ian Morrison dropped back into defence and Daniel Morrison came off the bench. The regulation time ended with no further scoring so the sides played 10 minutes each way extra time. This also ended with no further scoring and the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued. Lochaber went first and Danny Delaney’s rocket shot was brilliantly saved by Scott MacLeod, above his head with his caman. Danny Morrison gave the Islanders the advantage when he tucked his penalty low into the net. Ben Delaney scored for Lochaber but 2 Skye misses, a Lochaber miss and another wonder save from MacLeod meant Ian Morrison had the chance to give Skye the lead again and he confidently slotted the ball home. Both sides had one penalty remaining but Lochaber needed to score. However Scott MacLeod stood in their way and he made his third penalty save of the shoot-out with his legs to put Skye into the London Shield Final. Best for Lochaber were keeper Cammy Kennedy and brothers Ben and Danny Delaney whilst Ian Grant, Shaun Hedley and man of the match Scott MacLeod shone for Skye. Skye Camanachd U17 from; Scott MacLeod, Ian Grant, Shaun Hedley, Neil John Campbell, (Daniel Morrison) Martin Bruce, Ian Morrison, Neil MacVicar (captain), Stewart Grant, Paul MacKinnon, Ally MacLeod, (John Gillies), Jordan Murchison, (Ally MacDonald), Danny Morrison The 2010 London Shield Final between Skye Camanachd U17 and Beauly U17 at Braeview Park, Beauly, throws up at 11.30am. |
