Ireland won the 2010 Camogie / Shinty International when they beat Scotland (6-9) 27-8 (2-2) at Ratoath on Saturday 31 October 2010.
Cavin’s Roisin O’Keeffe got the home side off to a great start when she found the net for Ireland with an early strike.
The Irish made it difficult for the Scots’ defence and keeper Elizabeth MacGregor from Badenoch pulled off a string of good saves.
Scotland lost the services of Tir Conaill’s Fiona Mathie when she had to leave the field with a nasty neck injury following a collision. There was a lengthy delay before Mathie left the field but fortunately she was released from hospital later in the day.
Colette McSorley from Armagh scored twice for the Irish as they took their first half tally to 3 goals.
Ireland led (3-7) 16-3 (1-0) at the break with Badenoch’s Janette MacGregor finding the net for Scotland.
Colette McSorley went on to complete her hat-trick early in the second half.
Scotland enjoyed a period of pressure and Irish keeper Roisin McKenna from Monaghan saved well from Forth’s Katy Smith.
Scotland found the back of the net for the second time through Badenoch’s Jane Nicol.
However Ireland continued to dominate and Tyronne’s Aisling Corr netted on 53 minutes to stop any thoughts of a fight back.
Further goals from Westmeath’s Jemma Egan and Kildare’s Susie O’Carroll clinched a comfortable victory.
The Irish Camogie / Shinty Internationals began in 2004 which was the Centenary Year of the Camogie Association. Ireland won the Camogie / Shinty title in 2004 / 2005 while Scotland recorded a hat-trick of titles in 2006 / 2007 and 2008 before Ireland reclaimed the crown in Inverness in 2009.
