With the shinty season drawing to a close, we have a look back at the 2009 Marine Harvest Award winners. Ronald Ross scored what was officially described as his 1,000 senior goal during the 2009 shinty season, so it should be little surprise that he was named Marine Harvest Player of the Year. Given that the 1,000 goals only counts those scored since 1994 and exclude reserve shinty, the real total is no doubt significantly higher. It is a feat that will never be repeated and Ross’ dedication to the sport makes him an ideal role model for aspiring shinty players. Ross’ goals made a major contribution to Kingussie finishing ahead of great rivals Newtonmore to win shinty’s top division and he was also amongst the goals when Scotland lost narrowly to the Irish in the 2009 shinty / hurling international. |
