Strathglass Relegation Threat Lifted. | |
15 October 2010 There will be no relegation from Marine Harvest North Division 1 this season. Strathglass finished bottom of the league and Marine Harvest North Division 2 winners Glenurquhart indicated that they did not wish to move up a league. However second place Glengarry are considering the option of moving up which could have triggered a play-off against Marine Harvest North Division 1 bottom side Strathglass. There was no relegation to Marine Harvest North Division 1 from the Scottish Hydro Premier Division this year as both Bute and Glasgow Mid Argyll drop to Marine Harvest South Division 1. This would leave Marine Harvest North Division 1 reducing from a 9 team league to an 8 team league. Therefore the Camanachd Association has taking the sensible decision to allow Glengarry promotion if they wish thus restoring the division to a 9 team league. This is a welcome and common sense approach by the Association. Should Strathglass have lost the play-off and been relegated, there would have been consequences for their second team which would not have been able to play in the junior cup competitions as their first team would have been playing in them. Lochcarron have also shown how a club can bounce back from finishing bottom of Marine Harvest North Division 1. They finished in last place in 2009 and regrouped to climb to a fifth place finish in 2010. |
