Scottish Hydro Premier Division
Oban Camanachd completed shinty’s equivalent of “The Great Escape” when they beat Bute 2-1 at the Meadows, Rothesay. Brothers Aidan and Daniel MacIntyre were the Oban heroes with strikes either side of a Gordon MacMillan effort. Oban Camanachd’s will now play in shinty’s top flight next season and their second team Lochside Rovers will be able to play in Marine Harvest South Division 1. Bute’s challenge will be to galvanise their undoubted talent and make a speedy return from Marine Harvest South Division 1.
Kingussie clinched third place in the league with a 4-1 win over Inveraray at the Dell. Inveraray’s Garry MacPherson cancelled out an early Fraser Munro strike but a Martin Dallas double and a Thomas Borthwick goal gave Kingussie the points and third place in the league.
Roddy MacDonald ended the season on a high when he scored 5 first half goals to help Kyles Athletic to a 6-3 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll. The defeat means that Mid Argyll has lost 105 goals from their 18 league games this season – an average of almost 6 goals per game.
Marine Harvest North Division 1
A Mark Sproule double either side of a goal from former Scotland Head Coach Fraser MacKenzie was not enough to give Lochcarron anything from their game against second place Lochaber at Battery Park. Martin Johnston and Neil MacDonald both scored twice for the visitors whilst Calum Cameron and Ben Delaney got the others in a 6-3 triumph.
Marine Harvest North Division 2
League champions Glenurquhart travelled to Kirkton to play Kinlochshiel without several of their younger players who were playing in the club’s London Shield semi final. However the Glen were able to call Neale Reid into their side and he scored all 4 of his side's goals. However the home side earned a share of the points with a Scott Kennedy double and strikes from Stuart MacRae and Duncan MacRae.
Iomain Cholmcille
Eirinn reganed the Iomain Cholmcille when they beat Alba 15 (2-9) to 13 (13-0) in Galway. The Scot’s led at the break with Skye Camanachd player / manager Aonghas MacDonald amongst the scorers. However the Irish recovered in the second period to win back the coveted trophy.
London Shield
Skye Camanachd U17 and Lochaber U17 will meet in the final of the London Shield. Holders Skye beat Oban Camanachd 2-1 at An Aird thanks to a strike in each half from Jordan Murchison and Will Cowie. Gavin Lafferty replied for Oban.
Lochaber and Glenurquhart were level at one a piece at the interval at Invergarry. However a strong second half display from the Spean Bridge men saw them run out 4-2 winners.
Mod Cup
An Alan MacRae double helped Caithness to a 3-1 win over Sutherland to clinch the 2010 Mod Cup. The match was officiated by legendary former referee Henry MacInnes who is originally from Portnalong, Skye.
